Hi, just arrived back from a house hunting trip and we have found a lovely house near Marciac, just wondered if there was anyone out there who does or has lived near and if so any thoughts views would be much appreciated. thanks

We used to live quite near Marciac, and are now still in the Gers but a bit further south.

It's a lovely town, nearly my favourite in the Gers. (I like Mirande more.)

The countryside around is just beautiful, so much choice of scenic areas. And the big attraction to Marciac is the Jazz Festival at the beginning of August, though there are other concerts etc during the year. There's a recreational lake there too.

It's quite near to 4 airports - Toulouse, Biarritz, Pau and Tarbes.

We love the Gers, though the weather tends to be extreme - very hot or very wet or very cold; But winters are short.

The only negative would be that there's very little in the way of work, if you need to work.

Thanks Pat, thats really helpful, no fortunatly we dont need to work although may have to look at Auto E as a way of accessing the health system until we reach retirement age. We really liked the area and had lunch in Marciac which was lovely. Just emailed the agent with a few house questions before we consider making an offer!!

Marciac is  not  a bad  place...we live  30 minutes north of  marciac  and  love  it...just  that  much  bigger,   if  you  need  to  worry  about  stuff like  that

What is Auto E  as a way of accessing the French health system Please ?

Auto E is short for Auto entrepreneur which is one of the regimes under which you can register to work in France, thus gaining access to the healthcare system.  For more details try a search in the 'Earning a Living' section of the forum.
