Living in the Gironde

Recommended Posts

We now live near Sete in the Herault and need to downsize thus in our research we have recently focused on the Gironde. Our area is becoming too built up, and we prefer someplace quieter yet not isolated. If anyone here lives in the Gironde, we would appreciate your imput.

How feasible is it to find a house, no more than 180M2 with some land within walking distance of a village with shops, etc. We would love to find a small village which we can walk to and countryside areas to explore without so many cars. Is this an area one would be comfortable retiring to?

Hello Victor. I have just joined this

forum and noticed that your question from March has not yet been

answered. We have been living near Blaye in the Gironde for eight

years and would be happy to offer our view of the region.

I have sent you a pm.   [:D]

I loved Blaye reminded of Rye in Sussex in some ways and it is alive in winter unlike many French resorts.

Never really took to the pine plantations to the west of Langon but liked the town itself and areas to North. Still love Bordeaux and are just going back for a week's holiday.

We lived just outside Coutras for five years. I would also have a look at Libourne
