Restaurants in Sete?

We will be going across to Sete and Meze tomorrow, Friday, and wondered if anyone could recommend a good, not too expensive, restaurant in Sete. Preferably in the town itself and to add complication one that caters for vegetarians, Sis-in-law!! We will be there for lunch.

From what I remember all those we looked at were fish restaurants. Eating near the canal is tempting, but I'm told those away from the main tourist part are better value. But I'm a tourist when I go there! We enjoy visiting when there are water jousting tournaments on.

There are some horrendous tourist traps, which serve frozen fish from elsewhere...

Where did you eat in the end? Was it any good?

We finished up in a nice place in the main square with the fountain, empty, the band stand and the big statue. The name is Le Virgils, next to the Petit Moka. OH and I had the plat du jour and cousin-in-law and sis-in-law had vegetarian pizas. Well, sis-in-law is one of those funny veggie folks! Plat was cous cous and was delicious. We very often go for the plat and we have had loads of things that we probably would never have chosen. It int very often that we are disapionted!![8-|]

A lovely day was had by all even if we were a bit cream crackered by the time we got home!

It really is an impressive view from the top of Mont St Clair!

Glad you had a good time: I love the atmosphere of Sète, though the traffic can be horrendous.

The traffic was horrendous and the one way system is good for a laugh. Especially when you are half way up a hill to find everyone coming down [:-))]. Easier reversing down than up though!

We are off to have a look, from the bottom, at Peyrepertuse and Quéribus tomorrow. OHs cousin is not fit enough to survive the climb unfortunately. We have been to both before but family haven't seen it yet. They have to be seen to be believed! How anyone could buld something like that let alone think of attacking it I have no idea!

If you don't know what the 2 are above then google them, it's worth it!!

The barque is called The Earl of Pembroke and is a real beauty! When I took the photo I hadn't realised that there was anyone in the rigging and it was a real surprise to find them there!

Edit :- Peter, I couldn't get your links to work without excluding the 'http://', but that is exactly what we saw. Looking East along the coast you can see as far as the headland directly West of Toulon and that's a hell of a long way! It really is worth the trip if you haven't been...

Funnily enough I was there with another visitor on Tuesday, but it was slightly hazy.

Went by car this time for the first visit since I sold my boat.

I must admit that for anyone who doesn't like caving don't use the underground car park under the canal in the middle of the town! My OH nearly freaked big time when we went down there first time we went there! I ducked when we went down and I wondered if we were going to have the roof on our Citroën C4 on the way down. It ain't very big/tall.

The car parking at this time of year is not too good and in the crazy months of July/Aug it has got to be a nightmare?

As my burfdey is the day before all hell lets loose on the 14th July GG I can't see me investigating that one really, but it is not one I have heard of before?

We first visited when in the area around the time of my birthday, so I suppose I noticed particularly on reading the payment info board. You did need proof, of course! And no, I guess that might not be somewhere to visit for your birthday - we usually visit outside the main season, September's a good time. The weather is usually still lovely, it's not so crowded, and if you're lucky you can catch the Sunday jousting!  [:)]

They've done a lot along by the sea in recent years; what I remember as quite a wild area  has become a long strolling area, full of families enjoying the sunshine. I was pleased some of the apartments which were planned very close by didn't get built - or maybe some have now - it's a while since we've visited! I feel a September visit coming on, the diary's empty then!  [:)]
