Try Haven 'La Reserve' at Gastes, south of Bordeaux - they deliver nationwide.

Tel: 0558 097479

Bad time of year to buy, I think, as most of the sites selling of mobile homes are now closed.

We are just starting our second winter in our mobile home and would advise you to buy some additional heating (oil filled radiators) and a good electric blanket. Insulating under the van also helps.

Hi Wtg,

We bought a ex holiday park static caravan from Canvas Holidays several years ago - we bought it on a special offer when they were offering free delivery within France. The after sales service was splendid and they still help us out when we need to locate a part. After 12 months the water heater burst due to a severe frost (we were living in it during the winter of 2004) & they provided us with a new one completely free of charge.

Yes, you do need to get prior permission from your mayor (make sure you make it clear you are siting a mobile home as opposed to a caravan).

If you want any other information including the pro's and the cons plus a chance to learn from our mistakes (re. burst pipes and inept plumbers who mended siad pipes with, wait for it....................cable ties!!!!) then drop me a pm.

Cable ties are the accepted method for supporting pipework underneath UK supplied mobile homes, unless of course they're held in place by electrical cabling.

Most UK supplied mobile homes are not siutable for living in all year round. Hence the problems with Penny29's boiler.

They are purchased by the UK holiday companies as accomodation in a season running from approximately April to September. If they are not winterised correctly i e all of the water in the pipes is drained down , then problems such as burst pipe joints occur.
