We buy halal meat regularly when we have Muslim (or Jewish*)  friends visiting for dinner, bar-b-ques etc.  We wouldn't bother to go to Asda though as we have a specialist halal butcher nearby who will prepare the meat to order.

Edit: (*Although, technically not kosher, our Jewish friends are happy to eat halal as a good substitute)

LOL - as soon as I saw this thread we placed bets on how long it would take you Dog [;-)].  I think you may be fighting a losing battle on this one - though current meat prices in France will probably help your cause more than understanding slaughter and butchering techniques!

I hope you won your bet and you spend the winnings on lentils.

It is true that if people saw the way their meat was slaughtered and had to pay the real cost they would realise there are better alternatives than eating slaughterhouse products.

I take it you have been in the presence of  Halaal slaughter? The sheep I saw slaughtered carried on breathing for over two minutes with their heads hacked off with a knife - was it crueler than the average UK standard slaughterhouse - probably not - at least the muslims take it seriously unlike the operatives in european slaughterhouses that have little or no beliefs and often abuse the process for fun as they are so bored and are none to bright.

If you then saw the corruption of meat processing - for instance meat past its sell by date coming back to be unpacked, scraped, sprayed with brightening chemicals then repacked and labelled for suckers to buy.

I realise you are probably addicted to SHPs and cannot see a better way and will never enjoy tasty food full of life.

It will not be many years before meat eating is seen for what it is.

Lentils it is then Dog.  Actually we eat less meat than we used to - not only because of the cost but for health reasons.  Certainly when we are in France we rarely eat meat - I would choke on it at that price.  With regard to the method of killing, the animals head shouldn't be severed because they are required to keep the spinal cord intact (religious reasons).  They are also supposed to kill the animal as humanely as possible  (again religious reasons) and it should be with a single deep cut to the jugular and carotid.  I don't think any method of killing is kind but, as an omnivore, I don't think I will ever cut out meat completely from my diet.

I won't mention fish as that will really light your fuse....
Just looked up Halal on wiki to get more info on it. Slight change of topic, but I notice muslims are forbiddon to eat blood products. I wonder if they have the same beliefs as JW's with blood transfusions too.

I think it depends on what branch........

The Judean peoples front or...

The Peoples front of Judea (Splitters)

Plenty of Muslims have blood transfusions, shame they can't have the Boudin for breakfast though
It would be interesting to know as JW's get awful press for refusing blood.
JW friends of ours refused a blood transfusion for their child who later died.  I had a huge problems accepting their decision - it seemed such a waste of a young life and so selfish.

Pheew - the whole point that Muslims do not eat blood is that they attempt to drain it from the cadaver before they eat it.

Jehovaha Witnesses have actually done a lot of good through their strange beliefs - they have pioneered bloodless surgery and died for their beliefs.

Agreed. And I bet far more people have died from having blood transfusions than not! And really blood transfusions is quite a new concept in the grand scheme of things. Plus I'm surprised other christians don't follow suit as it quite clearly says in the bible to abstain from all things blood. Pretty straightforwrd to me.

I personally don't fancy the idea of other people's blood inside me. Especially as there are viable alternatives.

I have no fuse.

Fish are very badly abused it is criminal the rape of the seas. In my opinion fishermen should all be imprisoned for theft - the fish are as much mine as theirs.

Fishermen put nothing into the sea except pollution and just steal tonnes of living creatures for quick profit.

With the number of animals slaughtered even the slaughterhouse persons would have tired of abusing for fun. Saddly Dog that is really propaganda.

If you then saw the corruption of meat processing - for instance meat past its sell by date coming back to be unpacked, scraped, sprayed with brightening chemicals then repacked and labelled for suckers to buy. In France, the Loire Valley to be precise, My Niece worked on a mushroom farm in the hillside underground just outside Chatellerault. There were no toilet facilities or hand washing facilities for the staff, many of whom "watered" the crops. Don't worry though because all of the mushrooms were washed in bleach to make them nice and white again.

It will not be many years before meat eating is seen for what it is. Since Man (Homo erectus) has been around eating meat for 1.5 million years how many more will it be before it's seen for what it is (Food) [:)]

Well it saved my life and that of both my parents.  I've been a blood donor since I was 18 (with my little tin medal collection to prove it [;-)]) and I plan to continue until they won't have me anymore.  Husband and daughter are both donors too.  Giving blood is an easy thing and it does save lives.

You obviously havent worked in a slaughterhouse - do you really think you will see what happens with HFW and the TV cameras there?

Do not think meat is produced in a benign fashion just because you have knowlege of a badly produced mushroom.

Open your eyes and mind.
With regards to killing fruit and veg, well it isn't really is it? They generally regrow again.

I'm just out to murder an apple.
Fruit no, as you say, you are harvesting the apple to eat.

Veg, root crop carrot, spud etc, torn from the ground! not stunned but their skins removed whilst still alive! then plunged into boiling water! Outrageous behaviour.
