On the whole, all this up/down stuff matters not so much as whether habitants are most Ok with their life,
It does seem like an awful lot of people from Euroland want to move to UK
Which do you think demonstrates the most OK'ness; or where do you think people feel least OK; UK or Euroland ?
Do you think they blame the Pound or the Euro?

Well, after seeing Sicily last week, I should say that the disparity between rich and poor in Europe was wider than ever and that the Euro has not done much to fix that. The present crise can only make things worse as the Germans, particularly, impoverish nations in order to keep themselves save, secure and rich.

That being said, Europe did little to try and change the less healthy habits of the fringe states, Cyprus being the saddest example. It is a sad mixture of socialist overspending, preferably someone else's money and conservative thrift.
I would have thought that most people on this particular Forum had chosen Euroland.
Isn't it about living in France either full-time or in a holiday home?
I wonder ? Having a holiday home in Euroland is not the same as living full time in Euroland. There may be more forum members living full time in France, there may be less - how can one tell?

From the Code of Conduct : The forum is an open discussion board for Francophiles

You don't need to have any sort of property in France to post here

I suspect there are less full time owners posting here because it seems to me that the rosy pink bubble which surrounded moving to France has shrunk considerably...

I for one post on here more regularly as, even though we live here full time, there is always something we need help with. *some* french are less than helpful whereas *some* forum members are more so. And if I can pass on relevent information to others who need it I will.

Things seem to change quite rapidly nowerdays (not so much in France), so I should think that the UK is a very different place than when we left.

My association with France goes back decades, for holidays and some idea of a bolthole for family holidays and even possible retirement, not now though;
it's the euro which has shrunk considerably as RH says; Where is the success? worse yet, has the euro not failed in every sense that has any degree of uniting the constituent people, who are every bit as disparate and even more unhappy than they ever were?
I wonder how many would quietly wish that they had remained outside, Cyprus certainly, Portugal, Ireland, Greece, Spain, Italy, even France . . . I see such unhappy states.
Who are not happy to blame the euro? . . .
Ah, that would explain why the two topics on Cyprus have over 3000 views between them, then. It's about living or having a holiday home in France....;-)
Nobody prevents people from making posts or threads which have nothing to do with the main business which is stated as

" a variety of topics concerning France and French lifestyle being

discussed, with new messages being posted all the time. Apart from

general topics in the main 'Postbag' section of the forum, there are

slots for discussing property purchase and renovation, finance, leisure

and pastimes, education in France, passports for pets, French culture,

food and wine, legal aspects, satellite television, internet and

telephones, gîtes, learning the language, travelling to France and

health. Phew!"

The fact that topics on Cyprus have had many views reflects the fact that

"it is a

message board which from time to time is visited by hoaxers and those

not necessarily interested in discussing France and French lifestyle"

To the unblinkered I'm sure people on this UK publication and those in France are concerned with the currency, to whit the €uro,
what happens to it, and how Euroland choose to deal with it can see a connection . . .

Does that include the guru of bad news about the UK? [:D]

What I don't understand is that 'Europe' is so keen on human rights, you can't do this or that without tripping over human rights legislation, but apparently if you have worked hard and have over €100,000 in savings in a bank in Cyprus then you do not have the right to keep that money but must give up a sizeable portion of it...seems perverse to me......[Www]

To be quite truthful RH I hadn't thought of it in that light, but you are absolutely right, what a shower? But then I am jealous of the interest rates the Cypriots savers were getting.
At the risk of outdoing you for pedantry, Norman, please pop and have a look at the strap line of the particular sub-forum in which this topic was posted. I think you will find that it mentions, quite clearly and in upper case lettering, no less, that this is a place for posting NON France related discussions. So, either everyone is out of step but you, or, perish the thought, you are labouring under a misconception.

Having just got up and turned the TV on to catch the news I see that UK banks need to find £50bn to ensure their customers money is protected. It wil be interesting to see what ideas they come up with to raise the money.

Back to the original question. I would like to stand it on its head and ask what currency has fulfilled it's promise and where would you place your hard earned savings?

Unless we're adding in Korea (North or South?), it's the BRIC counties.

In answer to other posters, if you want to be there and spread it around a little then invest in an Emerging Markets fund. Plenty of those around but watch their charges. You can still find brokers who rebate their commission, or most of it, to you.
