The gendarme was apparently trying to stop cyclists riding down the hill whilst other riders finishing the stage, together with their car and motorcycle escorts were still coming up it.

Why on earth should he recognise Froome, in the rain, and wearing a nondescript grey jacket and dark goggles?

The gendarme obviously didn't see the "Team Sky" on his jacket - obviously no-one else had a jacket like that https://store.teamsky.com/products/aegis-waterproof-shell

Maybe he should have a large message on the front of all his apparel "I am Chris Froome and I have special privileges" - in several languages.

That should take care of riding the wrong way, as well as loading up on salbutamol before an event[:)]

You think he had special privileges do you... special as in being spat at, booed, having urine thrown at him, punched... these sort of special privileges I think I could live without.

As to riding downhill to the team vehicles after a mountain top finish where there is no room for support team vehicles... they all do.
Nomoss...if you know naff all about the whole Salbutamol débacle, best not to mention it.

Or has your tenure in France turned you into a complete French-style "fan"?
Not entirely, I'm just not guided by blind prejudice[:D]

I have been using salbutamol for many years, and am quite familiar with its effects and misuse.

Do you actually know what NAFF stands for?

Blind prejudice? So, having taken the trouble to follow the details of the - lets be clear - leaked information regarding Froome's possible Adverse Analytical Finding for a permitted medication: the outcome of which was that he was cleared of any wrongdoing by both the UCI and WADA, constitutes "blind prejudice", whereas being a regular user of Salbutamol gives you some sort of super-insight denied to other mortals? OK, sounds just as reasonable as mistaking Froome for a random because Sky sell replica kit online.

I once got a brown paper parcel delivered, but it doesn't mean I'm convinced one way or the other about Bradley Wiggins.....

In my case, naff(note I didn't use caps or intend it as an acronym) stands for fcuk. Which is disallowed by the forum software.

"Froome's wife Michelle told Reuters that she thought he had been mistaken for a fan because he was wearing a black raincoat. She added that he was not injured in the crash."

The naughty man swore too.

Shows what she knows...or what the independent knows.

Even by the simple expedient of watching the video ( and God knows it's been shared a gazillion times on social media and by the press, including the zindependent),you can see that the jacket is grey. As is the rest of the Team Sky " not actually cycling competitively but still need to dress in team uniform" kit.

Does seem quite a fanatical comment you make. A bit like the guy behind me in the crowd who was always shouting loudly and convinced last season that our football team was relegated because the referee was biased and not because the team were actually rubbish.

NB I suspect that Thomas was not wearing regulation Team Sky attire. Very naughty.

"Fanatical", perhaps not. Familiar with team Sky kit,

Definitely. They've been plugging it on their Instagram

Feed daily for the past 3 weeks. Oh, and in the home counties, if you haven't overtaken a peloton of posh city blokes dressed like Team Sky on a training run by lunchtime on a Saturday, then it's probably snowing. The kit of choice for the "all the gear and no idea" brigade. Although most baulk at shelling out the £10k for the Pinarello bike.

This is great stuff, just like listening to a proper domestic at the next table in a restaurant. do French Entree know what they have done to their business by losing all these opinions and arguments, no one visits the site anymore for fun but I am really pleased to see some old names here. I have not been able to keep up to date for the last couple of years but now have renewed interested - please keep up the good work and if I feel that I can throw my hat in the ring without upsetting too many members I may well. Thanks for renewing my faith in freedom of speech!

I don't really follow sports, but when I think that the World Cup went off without problems in Russia of all places......... taking into account how the Russian supporters acted in France.......

Then the Tour de France this year, and the behaviour of officials ie Gendarmes and those watching, is something that the french should feel thoroughly ashamed of.

Still what with the Benalla scandal and the heatwave gobbling up all the headlines, I suppose that the french news, were not interested in criticising anything else french.
