Could someone tell me how to post a link on this forum.

Normally I find the link, right click on the mouse, and click on copy.

Then go to the reply box, left click where I want to post, right click and click on paste.

Is this right?

I've just found a symbol in th bar below Message which says Create Link - second from right side.  Do I need to use this?

Pat.

What you are doing is creating an inactive simple text copy of the hyperlink.

An active link is created by copying the link you wish to post. Then open the reply or quote box.

Then click on the second icon from the end in the message bar, a thingy with a green ball on top.

Then a small window will open; assuming that you have copied the complete hyperlink including the http:// it will be necessary to remove the redundant http:// already in the box and then paste using the right button contextual menu.

OK another possibility is to copy ONLY the part of the hyperlien including and after the www. and then paste that contiguously with the pre-existing http://.

Simple and easy peasy.[:D]

How do I create a link?

  • Type

your post in the reply box as normal.
  • Use your mouse to

    highlight the text

you want to appear as a clickable link.
  • Then click on the

    'create

link' icon above the message reply text box and enter the URL of the

page you want to link to in the box (ensure the http:// is not

    duplicated):

  • Click

the Preview button and test your link.

There is no need to copy the link into the reply box, you use the Create Link Icon.

If the link you wish to use is already active then the following procedure can be used.

Place the cursor over the active link: right click and then select the Copy Shortcut option.

Then in the reply box place the cursor at the position for the link.

Then right click and select the Paste option in the contextual menu.

The link will appear as an active link without any of the Create Link Icon BullSh1te.

For example the active link in Krusty's post.

http://www.ladepeche.fr/Grand-Sud-Gers_ch67.html

There you are a purple underlined masterpiece.

Small point when you Copy it remains copied until you copy again .

Well, Pacha, when I go a-hecklin' for my next property, I hope I won't be the wee tim'rous beastie you're talking about.

What I want to know is:  how do I reduce the seller (or the agent) into said wee tim'rous beastie?[6]

I find the best way to post a links is as follows:

1.    Using mouse, highlight the URL (Web Address in top space in browser):  right click mouse button:

2.    Write an innocous phrase such as "See here" before pasting the URL saved on clipboard (The mouse click command for "Copy" saves the data, temporarily in the Clipboard file): Important!  Highlight the "See here" or similar phrase before you go to steps 3 & 4:

3.    Delete the extant http:// in the link box:

4.    Paste the saved URL into the link box:

et voila !

For example: this is the home page for the Forum: http://www.completefrance.com/cs/forums/

And this is the same web address (URL): See Here:

Using a short phrase as above keeps the forum pages shorter and tidier:

For example: this is a Google link:

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&&sa=X&ei=wIAoTOe2J4zw0gSvuui9BA&ved=0CAsQBSgA&q=Web+Sales&spell=1

And this is exactly the same link: See here:

I'm with you, Gluey, but with one caveat - it's worth making your link really obvious (by - say - putting it on a line on its own) because the very short links aren't always easy to spot.  It was a while after I joined the forum that I realised that the blue writing meant there was an embedded link in somebody's post.  Yes, I know, maybe I'm a bit dense but even so....

Thanks again folks [:)] The thing is , the simplified process that I used does work on other forums - mustn't compare unfavourably though. I mean, without the extra icon from the toolbar on here.

Strange that this subject has produced more comments than my original one in the Postbox, about the sacking of 2 french satirical humorists by french radio, presumably at the direction of the right-wingers in government.

Oh well!

I was very excited to find your step-by-step explanation, Gluestick, but am proving horribly incompetent at executing it.

1. I open a page to which I wish to make a link. I highlight the URL.

"Right click mouse button" - presumably I then have to select Copy?

2. "Write an innocuous phrase" - I presume this is to be written in the LivingFrance message-reply window?

3. This is where I get lost... What is this "link box"? Around the message-reply window I can see nothing but a box to request Email replies, and a row of emoticons.

4. Same problem as above.

Can you hear my teeth gnashing?!

Any additional help would be most welcome.

In case it makes any difference, I am using a Mac, and my browser is Safari.

Angela.

Just above the message box, can you see on the right  9 icons ?

From the right, the first one is an eraser (I think) which removes all formatting, the next one in is a green ball with what looks like a piece of chain in front of it - that's the 'link ' box   (if you hover over it it should say 'create link') Click on it and up should come a little box which says 'enter the URL'

Bon Chance !

Hi Clair and RussetH

Aha! Tout s'explique.

That whole bar of icons and formatting boxes is missing from above my Message-reply box!

I was looking for just such a linking system, as with other forums I frequent, but couldn't see them.

Is it because I am on a Mac, or using Safari as a browser?

Yeah!

I have just downloaded Firefox - and behold!  I can see the row of little icons above the reply box at last!

I just have to remember to use this browser next time I visit LF forum.

It must be a Safari browser problem after all.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Surprised to see this thread revived. I wonder if I'll have any more success this time:

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/irony

No, it still doesn't work, and I did use the ball and chain icon.

The strange thing is that my links used to work - I used to post music links from youtube and they worked.
