All a Bit Slow

Same here; thought it was just me when a few posts didn't turn up - thought my bronchitis had affected the brain and/or fingers! Glad it's not just me - and as Gardian says, other forums are working normally. Wonder if this will disappear too?!

Edit - there we are, it just needed a little moan to bring it in line!

Rubbish again this morning, 7 attempts to load, stalled each time but never an error or 404 message, all a bit pot luck when a page does load, but its rare its as quick as normal, wonder whether this will post?

in any case life is too short to be that patient for a forum that hardly carries any postings these days compared to before, it will have even less if this continues.

Most of the regular posters have been on the forum for a long time and do know the capacity of members to react when roused, but being mainly older folks, maybe can't be bothered to stir the pot. I must confess to occasionally trying to lob in the odd squib but most of the time they seem to dampen very quickly.

And a heck of a lot of people seem to have gone, disappeared, moved on, whatever without the input of many new members. Maybe people are too broke to come to France or even to have an interest any more.

Chancer, the other two French Forums I am a member of have also seen a substantive decline in posting activity in recent years. One of them is a bit busier but mainly thanks to one poster and a lot of posts from members desperate to sell up and return to the UK.

A clue to a reason why is that according to recent UK home office statistics the number of Brit retirees leaving the UK to live abroad peaked in 2006 at 22,000, but last year had declined to 4,000. On the basis most Brits moving to France are retirees and early retirees, this explains a lot!

Last but not least it is clear from the French forums a lot of Brits seem to be leaving France.

The poor economy, weak £ and UK house prices also have had an effect. Add to this the French health care changes for early retirees and rising expense of living in France.

Another factor is the demise of the peak time TV programmes about buying property abroad that were so prevalent in the UK .

Certainly the quality of information given here is far superior to the others, which may be why fewer postings are needed correcting the nonsense others have written.

Fox example a the recent thread on Taxe d'habitation  on the French petrol site (which someone showed me on their computer today)

Someone actually said that " no-one is eligible to a total exoneration of Taxe d'Habitation (and subsequently no TV licence) unless they have Zéro income.

We fell about laughing. Unfortunately I can't give them the benefit of my vast knowledge since  I am persona non grata [:P]

Perhaps someone should suggest they read the answers here?

This thread for example?

I made a comment that the combination of HORN and PORN was not a wise  choice of Forum name.

My eyesight didn't spot that it is in fact HORN and POM.

In lower case the difference is hard to spot, and I had made a genuine mistake, which I never realised until I recounted the story  here and someone (probably Chancer) explained my mistake

My Ribald mirth was taken amiss ...[:-))]
