"Clickable" links

Why do so many posts on this forum contain links which have to be copied and pasted into the address box of a new window/tab?

Is this due to the forum software, the browser being used, ignorance, or simple laziness?

I have no problem making links clickable, and often just can not be bothered to go though the process of copying and pasting a series of links offered in posts, which considerably increases the time needed to follow a topic.

I usually use BBCode, but I will try using the "ball and chain" symbol above, which I stopped using after it stopped working for me some time ago. Here goes:

Nothing seems to have happened[Www]

Here is what I tried to link to [url]https://www.bbcode.org/examples/?id=9[/url]

I'm fully aware of how to make clickable links. My iPad isn't, though.

I could, of course, get up, go to my study, boot up my ailing, elderly laptop, wait for it to tell me that 75 squillion updates need to be uploaded, make a cuppa, come back to find the spinning wheel of death is still going strong, put a machine load of washing on, spring clean the house, come back and find that I can't load this forum, and possibly, eventually, load it and make the link clickable.

Or I could do what I do now and post an unclickable link. Not through any malice on my part, but because that's the way the software is configured (or not configured) on here. I can't quote anyone without a string of incomprehensible symbols appearing, either.

I'm totally OK with people not bothering to copy and paste, though..

Not around here[:(]

Not a lot of difference from what I remember from the 1960's. Just more traffic.

I can post clickable links but am using a laptop and I.E., I understand that others cannot.

My problem is the sheer frustration of trying to cut & paste which for some reason this forum prevents my mouse or trackpad or even holding the up Arrow key and using the side Arrow keys it just wont allow me to block text from a reply like any other forum does, I have to quote the posting or create a reply in order to copy the link then have to paste it to the browser address bar, its far too much trouble for me and I only bother with stuff that I really think i might be interested in, it must really put off new members.

Something really should be done, its not just a minor irritation but something fundamental to the forum being used.

For the benefit of all (CrApple i-wotsit users possibly excepted but hey, you made your choice [:P] - and of course Chancer who seems to have an enduring capacity to come up with problems few if any have ever seen before) you do not need to physically copy/paste anything, simply highlight a link and drag/drop it to the address box or the tab bar.

Also, although this will be more browser and default search engine dependent, if you highlight text in a web page and similarly drag/drop and it should open a new window as if you'd done a search for the term or words.

For instance dropping the word Connexion into my Firefox tab bar (Waterfox actually but same difference) opens up a new tab with this:

https://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=Connexion&meta=cr%3DcountryUK%7CcountryGB

Thanks for that AnO, it works fine with my FF/W10, and solves the problem mentioned in my opening post.

A helpful suggestion rather than a criticism of me and my (admitted) limitations in this field for mentioning it[:D]

@ AnOther.

I have a Mac. It is the best investment in computing I have ever made. In the time that I have had it I would have gone through two microsoft computers. Which makes macs less expensive.

I have been using windows computers since 3.0. I would never ever buy another microsoft computer. You are just being ripped. I really don't know why you can't see that.

And its precisely the first action of highlighting something that refuses to happen when  try unless I go to the hassle of opening the edit screen and doing it manually with the up and side Arrow screens, with a mouse even in this edit screen after 10 attempts I cannot highlight connections, it might get the first few letters or the whole word sometimes will jump to the whole paragraph but never the link URL that I want, just did "Connections" in my manual way and it cannot be dragged or dropped in the URL box, it brings up a no entry symbol. I have chanced mice twice and also replaced the touchpad on the computer and its still the same and only on this forum.

You clearly know your IT stuff ANO and I dont, neither does anyone around here, its the only thing in which I am not self sufficient and in need of help, that why I ask on this and another forum, in all that time rather than help you  have usedd the opportunity to mock me often taking the time to reply to do that alone, I get the impression that IT support was your role before retiring, surely you did not do that to the people that depended on you?

And yet there was a time when I had an eye accident when you were incredibly supportive, you PM'd me with great advice regarding your friend who had gone through what I was going through, offered to put me in contact with him, I was very touched and thankfull, you were the only one to understand and empathise with my situation, I will never forget that. In recent years I hardly recognise you as that person from your posting style.

I'm assuming that, in order not to inconvenience the few, I should rush out and buy a new computer I don't particularly want, some software I don't particularly need, and then the 10 or 15 posts a year I make with links in them will become easily accessible to the 10 or 15 people a year who actually read them.

Sounds like the most logical and effective solution to avoid a couple of people having to spend an extra few seconds copying and pasting.

And a new laptop would cost me considerably more than a new IPad, so in order to avoid my choice of hardware being mocked by people who don't like them, I'd be well advised to fork out an extra few hundred (if not nearer a thousand) quid and get a socially acceptable piece of hardware.

Anyone got a nut that needs cracking? I'll bring the sledgehammer.
