What's the law on ...

What's the law on  picking up fallen branches in woods for firewood in France.

We heat the house on it - neighbours have said nothing  and we never meet anyone in the woods.

It must be the exact day of the year when ones conscience kicks in just before the run up to the time of goodwill.

I'd assume the woods belongs to somebody at least... therefore you'd be stealing?

Tempting all the same. The woods near us has just loads of timber rotting away, and the thought of taking my trailer down there....

I'm surrounded by them and with a hop over my back fence or within 2 minutes walk could gather more than enough to see me through a Winter.

I walk my dog through the local woods, and 3 weeks ago some old fellow cut down a massive oak tree which fell into the woods. He took the bulk of it and left loads. I said to him, "are you leaving this"?, "yes" he said. So, I took my saw, and filled my van up twice with wood for next year. The next day he returned for the rest of his wood, a few leaves and a dog pooh later he left.

He owns the woods.
