Perhaps we should start an insomniacs club -AnOther

Recommended Posts

Yes, it is, I truely sympathise....

Can't sleep either..

And there's a buzzing sound in the house, dunno where it's from, worries me.

I think it may be the " ballon d eau chaude " . ( Sorry, I don't know the English for that..)

Not sleeping has some advantages yet, I can put a log in the woodburner when necessary, I am even baking a cake !! [blink]

Anyone for a drink ?

Right, un petit chocolat crémeux on your way![:)]

I keep busy, or else not sleeping would be wasting time..

Washing the clothes, etc, when electricity is cheap, cooking, so if I feel sleepy the next day, I can just have a nap, the housework is done![;-)]

My son Guillaume goes to a table tennis training period every day in the upcoming week, so I could relax during the day.

He is so keen on his sport, he's impatient to go.

He's improved a lot, I saw him play in competition the other day, couldn't believe how much he's improved in a few months, since I last saw him in a competiton.

I guess I'm lucky, he's 15 , doesn't drink at all, nor smoke, so I don't mind driving him to and from training every day ..

Good for him; it's great when youngsters have something they're so keen on. [:D]

I tend to stay put in a chair with books, a drink and a hottie from the microwave, as well as the having the heating on. If I were to put the washing machine on or do something else domestic, my OH would also wake up. I'm just going to finish my drink, then might be sleepy enough to try bed again. Night. [:)]

"My poor neighbour came in this morning, eyes swollen and crying her eyes out about her dog who died on Friday evening within an hour of their moving next door.

She told me her cat also disappeared about 10 days ago and she said that she thought that had probably died as well.

Now she wants to move house again as she feels that, instead of bringing her happiness, this house move has brought the exact reverse.

She was clearly devastated by what had happened and her tears would have moved even the most hard-hearted.

I gave her coffee and many hugs and didn't really know what to say.  I'm going to make some fairy cakes this afternoon and take them over for the children."

Sweets, I think that's a very kind thing to do, of course they are upset now and want to move out but your cakes will cheer them up and be remembered for a long time.

What news of the "friend" with the camper van who are awaiting eye surgery?

P.S e mail from me coming your way sooooooon![:)]

Hi, Cindy ( Cendrillon, yes, I think that's my new nickname pour toi!)

Yes, indeed, the cakes were greatly appreciated but they have sent the children off to their grandparents as the mother herself is working over the Christmas period.

I think they have now buried the dog as our spade seemed to have been borrowed and returned.

My heart really, really goes out to ma voisine.  It was obvious it was a pampered pooch, being very tubby, had a bow in its hair and sat on its owner's lap when she brought it over to visit.

The van lady managed to have had both her eyes done and, as far as I could ascertain, they stayed in the van down the road from the private clinic for the week or so between the 2 operations.  They texted a few times but I'm afraid I just ignored them.  I spoke very briefly to the husband, only sufficiently to remain polite, and be given the news.

Haven't heard since but I am amazed that people could come back from the UK and still have medical treatment using their cartes vitales.  It's raised the question for me as to whether it's up to the individuals to return their cards when they go "home"?

Bonjour also to fellow insomniacs.  Frenchie, I also want to make a cake.  I have a stollen recipe and I am going to start it this afternoon.  The various fruits need to be soaked in rum for several hours.  Unfortunately, I can't do much when I can't sleep at nights.  We have no chauffage central and being up and about is not an option.

Mind you, perhaps the cold will send me into a coma?  The fear of not waking up after that is too great for me to try it, however!

Dear Sweet,    It seems there's too much happening for you at the moment..

Hope you are sound asleep now, getting some rest.

I don't know what to say, really, but I'm thinking of you.

Feeling blue at the festive period is not much fun.

And I hope all other fellow insomnacs are sleeping too!

For me, a bit of catching up on TV programmes I missed.. By the woodburner, even though the weather's milder now.

Bonne nuit à toutes et tous.

Any of you fellow insomniacs awake? I've just put the heating and kettle on.

It looks beautiful outside; we have about 10cm of snow - more than we've ever had down south. People in suits, carrying computer bags were still passing the house past 10 last nighr; they must have had a nasty trudge up from town through the snow. Our son took 6 hours to get home instead of 10 minutes, and DIL is stuck in Basingstoke.

Hope you're all tucked up, well and warm [:)]

I think I'll try an early night tonight.  Not getting as much done as I would like.  Can't seem to get hold of people on the phone, can't seem to order goods on line, can't seem to be doing much right.

Then, there is the stollen cake that I started last night and did a bit more to this afternoon.  Not convinced that mine is as described in the recipe.  Tomorrow will tell when I have to roll it out on a floured board and bung it in the oven.

Then, I need to do more shopping.

It's all the other stuff as well; like making sure we've got enough money in the French account to pay the mutuelle which is due 01.01.10.  How's that for a nice figure full of 0s and 1s?

Anyway, NOT complaining, only sort of reminding myself what I need to do.......

GG, are you OK?  Not overtiring yourself, I hope, what with all this gadding about to Norfolk that you have been doing.

The weather here is weird, very dull and nasty looking, very wet today but not really cold and not a bit Christmassy.

Off to drink my kefir milk and then off to bed to read and hope to sleep.

See y'all in the mornin........

The pompiers have just left my house   [:-))][:-))]

Had to call them as the water heating tank suddenly started leaking, the debit was more than a garden hose, twice as much as that ! When they arrived there was about 6 cm water downstairs [6]

I was panicked.

Of course, damage to many things , dirty floor, etc...

The pompiers are so helpful, they gave me all the info necessary about what had happened, what to do tomorrow, etc...

And tonight I couldn't cook dinner because I couldn't fix the gas bottle ..

Pas une bonne journée pour moi!!!

I can't imagine the damage if I had been away on holidays............   [+o(][8-)]

I think I won't sleep at all tonight...

I stay in bed, and look what you all get up to; silly stollen and leaks in the night! (I didn't sleep wonderfully, but at -8 outside, I couldn't bring myself to make drinks and stayed cosy in bed!)

It all sounds dreadful, Frenchie - and a lot of clearing up to do! As you say, imagine if you'd been away! So sorry to hear of it, and bon courage!

Sweet, it sounds as though you have too many things to do! I'm a great list person - helps to keep me sane, and oh the pleasure at crossing things off! I never seem to get everything from my lists done, I just put them at the top of each new one! The main problem always seems to be the things I don't remember to put on the list in the first place!

Which brings me to your worry about forgetting things - I seem to have forgotten so many things recently, and think of you forgetting things - which makes it seem not so bad; that sounds very Julie Andrews, doesn't it?!

I'm fine, thanks, Sweet. It seems strange to have nothing I absolutely must do, apart from generalities of life. All presents etc had to be done by last Sunday for family get-together, we're doing no socialising here, going out for wedding anniversary lunch today and again on Christmas Day, and bought Christmas cake for once - it normally gets iced today. So all is sweetness and calm-ish! It does all seem very odd though.

Take care everybody, whether rushing round near home trying to finish everything, or travelling to family.

Oh, my poor Frenchie, what a nasty thing to happen.  Would have been bad enough at any time but just round about now when you are on your own and have so many things to do..............

Mais, bon courage, tout est bien qui finit bien, je crois!

If I didn't live so far away, I'd scoot down to help you with the clearing up.

Hi, Kid, and Hi, GG.

Just time to say hello for the moment.  Got to go and finish off the stollen, then some shopping.

I have some soup for OH's lunch and I have walked the dog so I have the afternoon to myself to get on with things.

Weather has a nasty, raw feel to it and sky is grey and dull.  It's necessary to be determinedly cheerful when it's like this, otherwise throat-slitting will seem an attractive option!

Thanks so much Sweet17, and GG, really touching to feel your support.

I'm trying to forget about that, though it's been a tough day..

Fortunately, one of the pompier who came over last night was a " pompier volontaire" and a plumber in life, so he offered to come today, and he did, he fixed it and reassured me, he could feel my stress.

I can't really explain, but it was a bit of a trauma, having the pompiers in the house at night, water everywhere, going up , up, up, while I was waiting for them to arrive ( and at night things seem even more dramatic. )

And, as you probably know, when I was 20 I was held hostage in a hold up, with a gun on my head, so situations of stress evoke that , unconsciously, and then I don't feel well for the whole day.

I hope what I say is understandable !!

Anyway, it's over now, and here I am, hoping you will find some rest tonight .

If you do a " réveillon" tomorrow night, you need your beauty sleep ladies !! [;-)]

So do I,  I guess!!

A plus tard , je pense, dans mon cas....

[kiss]

Well, one insomniac, at least is here, Krusty!

Frenchie, Frenchie, be good to yourself, take things easy.  It doesn't all have to be perfect.  Everyone will love you just the same, even if nothing's right and you are not your usual self.

Go, pour yourself a nice, big glass of whatever you usually like to drink and just tell yourself that all will be fine and you will enjoy the reveillon tomorrow night and you will enjoy Christmas and you have G and your dogs around you and then the incident will lessen in importance.

Je t'embrasse xx

But they aren't in the nude on their calendar , not like our French rugby team !

( Their calendar is a bit more daring each year.. )

Here in Deux Sevres, our local farmers have also their nude calendar ! The profit they make with it is given to the " Téléthon " !

Funny, no??  [:D]

You are an angel sweet 17, we need more people like you...

Je ne dors pas, mais ça va aller.

Something I like to drink??   Cider!! Must be my Breton origins!!

Great idea, I'll indulge myself a glass of cider..

Hope you feel better, I know the period is not easy for you either.
