Recommended Posts

During scrutineering for the race in the town centre, there was a "one minute's noise" held in their honour (we were all invited to make as much noise as possible for a minute).  Maybe it worked?

Really great news.  After so long - as you say, 5£, it seemed impossible that this would ever happen

And while we are thinking of these fortunate two lets also remember the thousands of Afghans that have been killed due to an illegal occupation of their country, also not to forget all those brave UK soldiers who have also lost their lives and their loved ones who are left behind. [:(]

Hear hear!

I also feel that UK soldiers who are killed or badly wounded should receive better publicity in UK media; top billing on radio and TV news broadcasts, high up on newspaper pages etc. It feels wrong to me when the antics of so-called celebrities etc receive big headlines, while soldiers killed and wounded usually receive a small mention way down the broadcast/pages.

The illegal occupation, the Taliban peut-etre?

[/quote]

Don't think so, the Taliban originated from a mixture of people in Afghanistan and Afghanistan's who were exiled to Pakistan as a result of the Peshawar Accords in Afghanistan. They moved their 'centre of operations' to Pakistan after 9/11 and have gained official diplomatic recognition from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. The majority of Taliban's come from the Afghan Pahtun tribe, the largest tribe in Afghanistan.

As the majority ethnic group they have ruled Afghanistan for some 300 years. So the illegal occupation by NATO forces is just a drop in the time spectrum.

After the withdrawal of victorious foreigners... they will just slip back into governance mode yet again.
