Well good news in one respect in the UK papers today. As usual, pensions next year should rise by the CPI inflation rate. In September this was 5.2% and it has been calculated that the basic single State Pension should rise next year by £5-31 per week....

"Next year's benefit rates are not formally unveiled until later this year, but the basic single state pension is set to increase by £5.31 to £107.46 a week, while the joint state pension will increase by £8.49 to £171.84."

Hardly undiluted good news in my book, since it only means that pensions will be catching up with the increases in energy, transport and food prices that have already happened..  Our LPG price went up by 9p a litre this month and that's the second big hike this year. [:(]
