Noisy neighbours and violence

There have been posts about this in the past asking what to do about the problem.

This chap took the law into his own hands and shot four of them!

Together with the guys  who brought out a chain-saw to sort out a brawl outside a night club

http://www.midilibre.fr/2012/11/30/la-tronconneuse-c-etait-juste-pour-se-defendre,603323.php

and the impressive arsenal of small arms discovered near me

http://www.midilibre.fr/2012/11/30/l-inquietant-arsenal-de-deux-biterrois,603311.php

it seems that people are resorting to more and more violent means certainly in my département.

All this is less than 40 kms from me and most of it less than a km!

I have no evidence to suggest  police corruption  here, but plenty to have the feeling that they are reluctant to get  directly involved when large groups of 'gens de voyage' are involved. Sometimes you wonder who is in control.

On the other hand both the police and other emergency services are subject to unpardonable aggression at times, with for example les  pompiers having stones thrown at them while they are dealing with injuries.

PS  Glad you picked up voyoucratie ChancerI thought of you when I read it [:)]

As it is inexcusable, and completely unacceptable. My rabid right wing part of me says that anyone who in anyway attacks the pompiers or ambulence people going about their business should automatically be put in the stocks for a week. Not negociable. It would probably happen to a few, but it would stop.

The police, well, that is rather a different problem.

There are lots of little laws in France, which concern noise, maybe because so many people live in appts.

ie Dogs not allowed to bark unless there is an infraction. No noise after 22h or before 7am during the week, and 8am until 20h on a weekend; and the hours are more limited for using tools, and general DIY sort of noises.

It actually didn't take us that long to appreciate this. IF there was to be a party, then, the Mairie may have been informed, OR at least all the neighbours.

And it isn't as if no body knows about this, these are very basic general rules in France, that everyone will have been brought up with.

I could well imagine that if this man had noisy neighbours then he could have been simply pushed too far. So, do we know, was this party a one off, or shooting his neighbours was a desparate man cracking?

Thank you for posting this Norman. I was pondering on that very topic (violence in our departement) after glancing through Midi-Libre too. (I notice you didn't mention the lesser story of an 8-month pregnant woman who, on being asked to park her car elsewhere, ran the policeman over. In spite of being hit, he was not  badly injured, and tried to pull her out of the car,  then she lashed out and clawed him.)

As for the man who shot his neighbours, I found that I could put myself in his place: It's 1h30 in the morning, you are supposed to get up at 4 to go to work, and you can't sleep because of the neighbours' ramdam. You get up and ask them to tone it down, and they don't. What would I do? Well, I wouldn't go and shoot them (although I might feel like it, especially if they have an attitude) because I am not a firearms instructor at the local club. But truly, what could I do? Mind you, he didn't have to shoot to kill, he could just have kneecapped them, since he was a seasoned shooter.

Now, all these lives, wasted. I don't know if it is a true increase in violence, or if we are better informed, or if we are paying more attention...
I don't think that estate agents market Peckham as the 'real London' or the 'undiscovered South'

We in the Languedoc are thus misrepresented [:)]
No, they market Peckham as "Camberwell" or "East Dulwich" - where they think they can get away with it!
