Hundreds of mods?

Hasnt been like that for a very long time, there is only one active mod now who I think must actually be feeling very let down and questioning their loyalty.

There is only one thread thread dealing with miscontent, I created several others which were all moved into it, I'm pleased that they werent deleted, however that one thread is now locked.

I could never be a moderator certainly not Under conditions like the present.

Didnt Norman get banned for being myopic, no not in his narrow views (only joking) but truly myopic having misread a name?

To be fair, up until FE's implosion this month the mods had a fairly easy time of it and tended to let things run until it was obvious that it was getting out of control.

Now it appears that dissention is a banishment offence. I find it hard to believe the main mod is acting on their own instinct - I get the feeling someone is pulling the strings.

Incidentally, I'm a moderator on 2 quite specialist forums and if someone gets a bit beyond the limits of acceptibility (eg racism, anti-semitism, bullying) they get a nudge, otherwise censorship is light - it's the only way for the more moronic to become known as such. Sensible forum members do a much better job of sorting out forum ASBO-types than heavy-handed moderation ever can.

I am still as far as I  know, a member, but hardly ever look, in fact due to these comments, I did have another look, and gave up pretty quickly.  Not very useful stuff, never been easy to read, navigate etc, so I stay with this one, which did somehow manage to survive a nasty upgrade.  Never liked much of the chit chat there, it always seemed pretty pointless really, and not always accurate, and quite frankly, I've better things to do with my time.

The thing about Pomhorn's posts is a. They were not compulsory to read and b. often contained very useful info on legislative changes that were particularly useful to people new to France.

Certainly a lot more useful that the plethora of posts along the lines of ''M Thatcher wasn't very nice'', ''All (insert nationality) are horrid'' or ''I'm more French than you are''.

He/she never even mentioned the price of cauliflowers!

I am sure you are right. However:

a) wading through his many posts (I have no idea what his final post count was, but I have a feeling he had long passed the 30,000 mark when I left two or more years ago) to sort the wheat from the chaff was absurd, and the sheer volume made it nigh on impossible to ignore his posts:especially if you viewed the forum by "active topics" or whatever the terminology was over there, and

b) I am fluent enough in two of the three or more languages he apparently speaks, yet I will openly admit that, for all the sense some of his posts made to me, he might as well have been posting in Serbo-Croat.

I cannot honestly believe that I was alone in wondering how on earth people actually made sense of what he was posting, at least 80% of the time.

Also, as a user of one or two French "legal" forums for my own purposes when the need arose, I think some might have been shocked to learn that a question asked TO him on TF was often to be found not long thereafter, being asked BY him on one or other of these legal forums, in order that he could then provide his "expert" reply on TF.

FE is critically compromised and shows little sign of recovery, I think if they haven't fixed it by now the chances are they won't, or maybe can't.

I don't believe it was a deliberate attempt to close the forum down though, if they'd wanted to do that then they could have just announced it and done it and in doing probably created less ill will and criticism than the botched 'upgrade' has done - and is still doing.

Was a time when this forum was the bigger and more lively and FE was a poor second but maybe CF is in the ascendency again.

AI is the only competition but is already deader than FE and too viciously moderated for many. The regional format severely dilutes it's usefulness too.

I completely agree re Pomhorn, he was a PITA and as Betty says what few bit's of useful info he did post got completely lost in the blizzard of other semi comprehensible drivel he seemed to believe would be of some interest or relevance but weren't at all, the mods would brook no criticism though.

Lets hope so, structurally speaking just of the forums not the members or their dynamics both forums were pretty equal after the last round of enhanced user expériences, both were no improvement on their predecessors but there was a will shared with the contributors to make them better and it was achieved in a relatively timely fashion.

Now? Well its no competition as you say. I could never really see why one outstripped the other in such a large way, I can understand people moving over because it was more lively, I did so myself but you say that it was initially the smaller one, so what made it become the dominant one?

They did actually have a word in his ear but only after shooting a few messengers, it had a remarkable effect for a short while before becoming business as usual with 20 + irrelevant thread being loaded in a few minutes usually at 10am and swamping the active topics page.

Some of his topics I found interesting so would struggle to read them but whenever he replied on another thread I would have to skip over it as it was often such hard work to understand and 9 times out of 10 irrelevant to the question being asked.

I was rapped over the knuckles for suggesting that a recall notice he posted for haemorrhoid cream was possibly a bridge too far....

Mind you, perhaps it wasn't such a bad thing. I can see with the benefit of hindsight that there could have been a fair few members suffering from a PITA..
