IS murders of police couple

Recommended Posts

What with the excitement of the football, the hooligans and the referendum, many of you may have missed a hideous double murder and later attempted murder in France.

A married police couple were both killed while off duty by a known IS fanatic, their throats being cut. He had lain in wait in their garden before killing the man as he came home from work, and had then gone into the house to kill the wife.

The whole thing was filmed and posted on social media by the killer with a ranted message of support for IS.

The murders were witnessed by the couple's three-year old son who was spared death.

The killer has been known to the services for years and was being watched, and had already done three years prison for supporting and recruiting for IS. He had a list of police people, prominent others, journalists etc to kill next.

The GIGN took him out, thankfully.

And yesterday, a young woman was stabbed in the head and stomach by a madman who claimed to be under orders from voices which told him to kill during Ramadan.

In this case the victim seems to be out of danger.

More random acts of this type are to be expected.

Horrific.

And I read on the BBC news that after the little boy was taken to the Necker children's hospital in Paris, "the hospital was targeted by protesters against the government's labour reforms who threw projectiles and smashed windows."

While the Hospital was a target of an horrific attack it is debatable whether those responsible were protesting against the law or, as seems possible, part of  the group of extreme 'casseurs' who go around masked and hooded, with an uncertain agenda.

Whether ultra-left or ultra-right there to discredit the genuine demonstrators is yet to be seen.

In any case another unwelcome ingredient in the cocktail of things going bad at the moment in both countries.

No official church service for them of course, this being France.  I applaud that because it is more "honest".

Nonetheless a large commemorative service in Versailles this morning and they were all there, Messieurs Holande, Valls and Caseneuve.

Whatever you might think of Hollande, in situations like this (as after the Charlie Hebdo and Paris attacks) he is statesmanlike and compassionate.

As an aside, I MUCH prefer the measured way in which he speaks to Sarko's frenetic outpourings and arm-wavings.

Thanks Woolly,

Well posted. There is absolutely NOTHING off limits to the persons and their controllers/organisers/supporters who carry out these unbelievably and increasingly savage attacks. Nothing whatsoever.

Remember though : It also has absolutely nothing whatever, in any manner, way shape or form to do with Protestantism, Catholicism, Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, Methodism, Presbyterianism, Mormonism, not even JW-ism, atheism, agnosticism, nothing at all, nothing.

Did I leave anything out ?

Getting older every single day.

This person was known to the services, so an existing latent potential to violence/extremism might perhaps have been anticipated. But what is it that IS has, or can do, to suddenly incite these people to turn on extreme violence - usually against unarmed/defenceless others ?

Is it the promise of glory in another place ? Is it self-aggrandisement ?

Psychogists/psychiatrists could have a field day explaining why social media needs to be the medium used to proclaim/announce these acts of violence to the world.

Sad times; when ordinary members of the public might feel the need to be watchful and suspicious, even when returning to the sanctuary of home.

Mint Said.....

"Whatever you might think of Hollande, in situations like this (as after the Charlie Hebdo and Paris attacks) he is statesmanlike and compassionate"

Ummmm is that where one the colleagues of the Policeman refused to shake Hollande's hand and Hollande just pretended it did not happen and walked on whereas as Valls actually stopped to ask why.

The Policeman said afterwards to the media that they are totally under resourced and I am think I am right in saying that they have 3 police cars for 40 officers.

There was also a report yesterday that the Police in France are at breaking point due to the pressure of terrorism, the strikes and the Euro.

FH has an approval rating of 11 %.
