BJSLIV
Having closed the short-lived Poole to Spain routes at the start of the month, DFDS are now talking to the unions with a view to stopping Portsmouth - Le Havre at the end of the year. With a question mark hanging over the future of Newhaven - Dieppe it looks like Brittany Ferries will soon have the non-Dover routes all to themselves. Théière
Oh I so nearly kept Newhaven alive with my £62.50 ticket but I went P&O in the end for more friendly sailing times.
woolybanana
The reason these routes are closing is that the boats would have to have scrubbers fitted to reduce pollution levels and it is just not economical. Scrubbers come dear these days!

woolybanana
OIOIOI, Norma N.New rules on pollution in (roughly) coastal waters come in at the beginning of 2015 but the shipping world has by and large kept its head firmly in the sand and hoped they would go away. woolybanana
Older ships probably won't be economical to convert. Some of the new Brittany Ferries boats will be fuelled by gas of which there is something of a glut at present.
tonyinfrance
Living in Brighton we have naturally been frequent users of the Newhaven-Dieppe route (not a great service but very convenient).Any thoughts on the best alternative? We don't want to go to Dover so I guess Portsmouth is the obvious choice but the road (A27) is dire....
PaulT
Down the M20 straight off at junction 11a and in to the Tunnel terminal. No choppy crossings and no problems when the French blockade Calais.
