Otters - what a great day

Hi everyone,

This afternoon I had the good fortune to go on a little field trip with a small group of people, mostly Brits, with our resident expert from Vienne Nature. We happen to live in an area which is very important for the re establishment of Otters, with the Charente river and several tributaries of the Vienne river passing close by. The purpose of the trip was to learn more about the indices of an otter’s presence to enable us to report back any signs of their presence in the future.

The really good news was that after about an hour and a half we found an otter’s spraint on a large rock under a bridge, you can imagine the huge smiles all round. If you look at the photo you can see the fish bones and scales - it also has a very distintive smell but I can't do that on the web!

Best, Chris
