Mantis?

Recommended Posts

Hi folks, look what Frances found in the garden this morning? She was looking at the leaves of a small plant, touched on and had the mantis in her hand complete with the case it had just left. Before I could get my camera the case was blown away. The little perisher is only about 1/2 inch long and beautiful!! You can just see the sharp claw on the front foot. I remember watching a large spider decide that it was going to have large mantis for dinns. It walked up to the mantis to attack and the mantis just slashed out, caught the spider and eat it. Nature is wonderful...[kiss]

I do love my camera!!

I thought that you may like to see this one too. A lovely swallowtail on our lavender. I do love this time of year with all the lovely insects and ALL the wonderful soft fruit.

Great picture but it doesn't look like any of the mantii I have found.

Weirdest I found in the garden was an empusa mantid (do a google on it) but we also get the large brown or green ones.

I still haven't figured out this photo thing.

Hi Dog

This photo thing.  You have to put the photo somewhere on the Internet.  Copy the photo's address and put it in your message.  Put [/img] after the image address.  Put the same before the image address but without the slash.  That's it!

e.g.

or

NB make sure the image isn't wider than the screen or you screw up the screen width on the forum - like Jonz!

Nice swallowtail.  We seem to have loads more this year.  Bit tired of strawberries, though!  Cheesecake, icecream, tarts .....

I don't think that is a mantis. Their front two legs (?) are a fair way separated from the others and are held in a praying position - not preying if there is such a word. The fascinate our cats. The mantis unfurl their wigs and hiss at the cats.

Here are some dragonfly larva.  Look very like your beastie  but the wings aren't fully developed yet.  Obviously there are dragonflies and dragonflies, so these may just be family.

I would say it's definately a cicada and not a Mantis.  Last year I had the pupated skin of one attached to a peach leaf.

I will post a picture of my daughter with a mantis when I've finished downloading onto Photobucket my Robbie Williams photos from last night's gig in Paris!

Great pic of an empusa mantid just the one I found. Mine would not stay still just wanted to run about and my pics are all not in focus.

I give up with this pic thing - I have been doing exactly what you suggest!

Here goes again....

These are more ordinary mantids I find...

There is something a bit 1960s going on as even my quotes look chocolatey...

The text just does not appear as I type it when I post.

It must be a CIA plot they have been looking for me for ages.

S'pose it may be MI5 or the electricity board....

The image has to be somewhere on the internet - like photobucket or any website.  If you put your mouse over the image and right click a menu appears.  If you click copy image location that puts the image address on your clipboard.  Go to your message and hit the ctrl + v  keys at the same time.  This pastes the location of the image.  It should begin http://.  Then put the bracket img bracket before and bracket slash img bracket [/img] after what you just pasted.  You should now see an image if you hit preview or post.  Sounds complex but it isn't when you've done it once!

See? I ctrl-clicked your avatar, chose copy image location, pasted it into the reply, added [img]n etc as per Chris' instructions earlier and Bob's your Nuncle.

But I'm using a laptop, which is single button, and the mouse here is single button and it's such a loooong way up the stairs to the G5!
