Choochoo
Dont panic !!!Perusing the veg. patch today we came upon a huge insect. It was about 4 inches long and looked like a giant cricket but bright green.I guessed it was probably a locust blown on the wind from somewhere, anyone got any ideas ??John & Sue ( keeping a watchful eye out for swarms of locusts )
chris pp
I would have thought it was a bush cricket if it was bright green (or a mantis), the migratory locust is either brown or a dull green.Chris
Cassis
Here's one type of bush cricket, very similar to the ones we get around here (Normandy-Sarthe).

Cassis
Quite easy to distinguish them:Look into my eyes, into my eyes, not around my eyes ...

Choochoo
I have settled on the bush cricket theory and let it go, saw another yesterday and managed to trap it and have a good look.Cassis, just a Dennis the Menace maniac, we have three cats, Dennis ( of course), Smiffy and Minnie. That tells you something.Looking forward to finishing the house so that all my Dennis collection can come out on display again.RegardsJohn
