OK No snakes - anyone like spiders then?

Recommended Posts

I had just cut a few roses and was stripping the lower leaves when I came across this lady.  I think her name is Mme Pisaura Mirabilis or a Big Wolf Spider but I could be mistaken.  She was really feisty, protecting her bundle of eggs and whilst I turned the rose around and around to take pics of her she resolutely stood her ground.  She had a web there where she had glued some of the leaves together and then created a sort of a neat web tunnel inside them.

I have to confess that I loathe spiders but the trouble is, I am afflicted with this burden of curiosity which often overcomes good sense.  The curiosity must be getting stronger as I get older[:P] because a couple of years ago you wouldn't get me in the same room as a spider, let alone a couple of inches away.[:-))]

Well done - fantastic photographs! I have to say I'd prefer to meet a snake than a spider [+o(] any day but, like you, I can appreciate the wide range of wildlife we meet every day here - I hope you had a long zoom on your camera and weren't as close as it looks [:)]

Ah, but fear of them, shuuuudder, I have.  It's just that my head tells me that I am too big for them to eat,  much, much too big actually[:P].

Mme Miaou,  no telephoto lens, just the cheapest camera on the market set on macro.  That meant at  2 inches at best.  Still, if Mme P Mirabilis had jumped it was cheap enough for me to drop it on the concrete and run shrieking to safety and not to cry at its destruction.[:P][:P][:D]
