Ants

Recommended Posts

Can't find anything recent on the subject on the forum, but maybe there are new ideas out there anyway?

We have suddenly been inundated with tiny black ants, which seem to coming in from outside through several different windows/doors.  We placed ant blocks where they were running  a few days ago, but we've seen no let up let in the procession.  Anybody know of any product widely available and effective?

Are they heading for the kitchen/food areas? Ants often seem to come inside if they sniff out a free meal - maybe a dropped item of food, unsealed packet or open dustbin. Can you see if they're heading anywhere in particular?

No, nowhere near the kitchen.  They are coming in through the doors of the lounge.

Many thanks for the other suggestions. Will give the lemon juice a go in the first instance.  Unfortunately, we don't have a SuperU close by, but will call in if we see one on our travels.

Also suggested by a friend was washing up liquid, which has worked to a degree..........a gel of sorts, I suppose!  Perhaps we should try a lemon-scented varierty?

We use the anti-formis gel from Super U, which is very effective. The gel is blue so it is very easy to see where you have put it.
The ants love it.

There was this discussion 2 years ago.

By way of follow up, we eventually found a gel-fourmis (brand KB) at a small local Spar.  It is blue in colour and has worked a treat......[:D]

We have stopped the little blighters coming in from front and rear of house but still finding them in our hall and some of our bedrooms. We are wondering if they are being carried in on our shoes and clothing after being in the garden.  We have a very effective powder but hesitant to use in inside the house as we have two dogs.

It was a bit like Custer's Last Stand or a scene from Zulu here, with invasions from all directions.  I found one column marching up an outside wall, into the roof space and then back down into the house via the internal wooden pillars.
