Has just died.
Although normally  I prefer classical music I had an enormous admiration for his work.
Despite the clichés calling him the French Sinatra I considered his work far superior both because he was also a singer/songwriter  and also because he dared to sing uncomfortable songs of a sort that would have been unthinkable at the period for American crooners.

I did listen on Youtube, but the "a-a-a-a je" sound isn't quite right.

I think even my poor French in the early 60's would have differentiated between pourtant and potage, as I was working with French people and speaking French all day.

Maybe it was another singer.
