Alcohol-free drinks

We are having guests to stay soon and have been told that as one of

them is an alcoholic who has only recently gone on the wagon, it would

be appreciated if we didn't serve drinks before or with the meal. 

That has thrown me a little - obviously we can serve water with the

meal but does anyone have suggestions for something a little more

interesting than plain fruit juice as an aperitif?  The only

alcohol-free wines we had (in the UK) were rather sweet and innocuous

and in fact I have never seen any equivalent in France anyway.  If

anyone reading this is a non-drinker, what do you like to sip before or

with your meal?

In my experience Alcoholics, when off the booze, really hate any fake (alcohol) drinks.

I'd just offer the same range of normal non alcohol drinks that you normally would.

I've known loads of Alcoholics.

 When I am in non drinking mode I like Cranberry juice and tonic water, its sort of dry............and not too gassy.

Teissere do an interesting range of soft drinks, cocktails with very unusal ingredients and no alcahol.

Try  "Pommy"  it comes in champagne bottles but is just sparkling apple juice. Most pleasant alternative to alchole, and available in all supermarchés.

There is a good range of alcohol-free aperitifs whcih taste not unlike vermouth called 'Palermo'. There is also an alcohol free pastis called Pacific.
