Gaillac Wine Region

We have decided to pop over to the Gaillac wine region and visit a few vineyards,  Its not too far from us but will stop over night as a treat!  We are not looking for expensive wine just the usual vin de table.  We found a reasonable bottle of Raimbault Rose for less than 3 euros and tonight will try the red from the same vineyard which I think it was about 3.50 euros.

Can any one recommend a vineyard for either red or rose where we could buy VRAC or BIB or bottles of less than 4 euros in this region. 

Any recommendations for places to visit, a good lunch or reasonable evening meal and a cheap place to stay.  Its just overnight so basic and clean is all that is required.

It's a long time since I've been, but I remember Cave de Tecou as being worthwhile.

There is a biggish Cave at Labastise de Lévis. Try the Perlé which, in my opinion, is the best white you can find round Gaillac.

I have visited (on reccomendation from a friend) a vineyard in Gaillac region in a place called Noailles exccelent selection of wine especially the 'Perle' - slightly spakling white wine - sorry can't remember the name but its a very small ville so you should find it easily.

Chateau Bouscaillous in Noailles sent me a flyer today saying they are having an open day on June 1st.  It's a small place so that could be the one mentioned above.

We like Chateau Bourget near Vindrac, Domaine Labarthe and Mas D'Aurel.

Make sure you visit the Maison des vins (in the old monastery? "down" by the river in the centre of Gaillac) where you will find some details of all the principal producers (and a few free tasters).

Obviously, you're not going to get anything interesting in the price range you mention, although some of the Gaillac Perlé (ca. €3-€4) are really quite good.

Do try and beg, borrow or steal something from one of the absolute top producers: Robert et Bernard Plageoles, Michel Issaly (Domaine de la Ramaye), Alain Rotier (Renaissance), and Patrice Lescarret (Domaine de Causse Marines) with his single cepage wines: Rasdu (Duras), Zacmau (Mauzac) and Dencon (Ondenc).

La Cave de Técou is rather "industrial" but their "Passion" wines are very pleasant (with some interest) and they are commercially well set up for visitors (free tastings, with notes) and quite easy to find.

All the above have found a place (or many) in my cellar and are very different (aside from the Técous and, to some degree, the Rotier Rennaissance) from any wines you would find outside of Gaillac.
