Why not, if there is lots of butter[Www]

 

I prefer english sliced bread to the french sweet stuff.

 

And come on, it isn't as if the french don't eat boring carbs, a lot of people in my village would eat a plate of 'dry' cooked pasta with nothing on it, or maybe a knob of butter but not enough to moisten. Gimme the toast sandwich any time. I have had trouble eating pasta like that.

 

EDIT I roasted a pork joint a couple of weeks ago and had a slice of bread with some of the cold jelly and a little of the dripping, absolutely delicious and a good measure of salt. I do eat very healthily sometimes, but sometimes I have what I love.

Your wrong for once Norman,  happy memories are some of the most satisfying things in life. And as for you SW17 your lot must have been rich, we couldn't afford Ovaltine; only cocoa [:D]

 £200 prize for a cheaper meal. Very do-able and a royal feast compare to the 7p for that sarnie. That is truly being a miser ! Ebenezer Scrooge Xmas lunch is it ? 

Simple : go out for a long walk in the woods or the fields : abundance of mushrooms, multitudes of berries, the odd rabbit that's eating up your precious garden, or that pigeon roucouling his heart out that it wakes you up, the odd catch of minnows from the river, nettle greens, wild garlic leaves, topinambours (Jerusalem artichokes) etc ... etc ... No end of imagination and gleaning to be done ...

Plenty learnt in the cosseted bosom of a poor french peasant family [:(] Get the violins out [:P][:D]

Normy I do believe with comments like this that you are completely recovered ! So glad to see the humour return [:)]

I remember a whole variety of sandwiches from yore, including Bread and scrape (off the bottom of the dripping) with Bread and Sugar for afters; best of all being two slices toasted on one side with covering of available choice on the toast side, then put together, with the untoasted side outwards, Brill . . .

Oh no, pitway, I could never stand all the little bits in the salad cream!

But I love putting plain salted crisps in any savoury sandwich that I make for myself.  I pick up the biggest crisps and spread them carefully on top of the (open) sandwich and then sqash the "lid" (other piece of bread) on top.

I love the sound of the crisps as I crunch my way through the sandwich.

However, as I have been following Wooly's advice carefully, I have more or less given up sandwiches...[:(]

Our treat on a Saturday night when we were children were crisp sandwiches as we watched Juke Box Jury. We weren't allowed them very often, but they were good.

 

Has anyone else near phobic too, about the check out person getting their mits in the middle of a bag of crisps and squashing them. I would buy bags of crumbs if I wanted crumbs, I like my crisps in whole pieces, not miettes.

 

I could not give up sandwiches, I love sandwiches, I mean I really love sandwiches. In spite of loving cooking they are one of my favourite foods and if I am home alone at meal time that is what I have.

 

I am full of cold and feeling hungry and this thread reminded me of sweet sandwiches. I was undecided whether to have a banana or golden syrup sandwich and the golden syrup won, and it was lovely.
