mint
Can anyone recommend a good internet site to buy curtains? As it happens, I only want "net" curtains, ha, ha. Seriously, I don't want fancy lined, with swags, with tie-backs or anything like that. Our verandah is so sunny that I often feel I ought to wear sun-glasses while sitting there (not in the last few days, of course). I can see that there are hooks put up to take curtain rods so I deduce that someone had curtains there at some time in the past. So, I thought I'd try putting curtains on a few of the glass panels.Which is the best, ie cheapest, place to get them?Only want plain white or ecru and only want ready-made as the glass panels are standard size.Thank you for your suggestions. Cendrillon
You could try Ikea. In the past we had some really good curtain buys at Carrefour but it was a while ago and I don't know whether their range is as good now.I realise this has not really answered your question as you are looking to buy on-line. Have you looked at La Redoute or 3 Suisses?
idun
We had a great place for fabrics called Mondial Tissue, which I think are all over France. Some of their voilages just needed cutting and were ready to put up.
Gemonimo
La Redoute is brilliant and if you don't like what they send or it doesn't fit or whatever, you just send it back, Their range of household linens is pretty good.
mint
Wow, all my bestest friends, Cinders, Idun and Gem, replying! I loves y'all![:)]OK, will look at all your suggestions. Have been out and about today and things are ticking along at a rate that makes me a bit scatty (not that that takes much). Will get round to emailing and am a bit ashamed that I haven't already done so.Bisous, bisous
Loiseau
This place is good, Sweets. Tissus du Renard. My fabric-savvy curtain-making sister was bowled over by the range and value when I took her there when she visited me in the Vendee not long ago. Their shops are only in the Vendee and Niort, but you can order online.Angela
mint
Looks very good indeed, Angela.Wish I could get really enthusiastic about curtains but, if I am strictly honest, I can't say that they do much for me!Having said that, needs must, as I fear getting that old boot leather look if I continue to sit on the veranda and there isn't even a scrap of material to shield my delicate countenance[:P]Perhaps I should invest in a parasol instead (I don't mean those huge monstrosities that bend over at an angle to your table when you are eating dehors but one of those frilly umbrella things that you see on Merchant Ivory films) Should be a damn sight cheaper, don't you think? idun
Many people I know have little stores at their south facing windows, and sometimes they have rather bigger ones that are attached to the wall and pull out over the terrace. And sometimes like these http://goo.gl/242Yt although not at this price, I know that they can be bought more cheaply if you shop around, or catch a good offer. mint
Yes, Id, that will be for the lower terrasse at some point in the future.I am getting the curtains for the upper, totally glassed-in veranda.Indeed have found some on leboncoin where the owner is happy to send them to me. Only problem is, I have now found more suitable ones and I am waiting to see if this "second" person (who incidentally, lives in the Rhone-Alpes. Is that your "old" area?) will agree to stick them in the post.I hate this waiting for one answer before putting off the first person because it makes me feel very mean and inconsiderate [:(]
mint
Uh-huh, don't know whether to post my "curtain" experience on here or on my leboncoin thread as I got them from leboncoin. On balance, I think it better to post on the leboncoin thread as I have other things to say there that would not fit in here. So, for those interested in my "saga of the curtains", you'd have to go to the other thread. What I do want to say here, however, is that I decided in the end to ring the person in the Rhone-Alpes, persuade him to send the curtains and, instead of some cock-and-bull story about why I couldn't buy from the "first" person, I told her the truth, that is, that I had found other more suitable curtains than hers.
