Frederick
I always believed that the gold medal winners at the olympics got a gold medal ..........it seems bronze winners get a solid bronze medal ...... the silver medal winners get one 92.5% pure silver .....the gold medal winners ........a silver one covered in 6 grams of pure gold...... .I am surprised at that ! Phil & Pat
Wikipedia thinks different;"Most gold medals are gold-plated. Notable exceptions, made of solid gold, are the Lorentz Medal, the United States Congressional Gold Medal, the olympic gold medal, and the Nobel Prize medal."Any gold medal holders out there willing to give it a scrape? [:)]Also check out THIS, sorry too much time on my hands!
Frederick
Mmmmm ..........Google "The true Olympic Scandal ".. seems things changed in 1920..... Antwerp games.....now silver guilt .....called "Gold " medal because of the colour today .....given the amount of cash they have I think they could come up with a solid gold one ! moonraker
One of our neighbours (35 years ago) won a gold and a bronze in Mexico in 1968 and four years later the gold was coming off; his bronze one was fine though!
Patf
I've got a silver one from the school sports x years ago and it still polishes up nicely.
moonraker
The neighbour was a fencer and he managed to get our whole family involved with fencing; we didn't make it to champion level though!
Anton Redman
Some years ago I was medium wasted at a pop stars house who decided to play their gold disk. The chipmunks sang forth from the B & O at about 4 am.
