Quillan - your title says Moderator - well sir you are an EEGIT - A FOOL. You neither have the ability to arbitrate nor spell you fool.

The ref - who clearly was unsighted and went to the TMO for a decision - and Dicko who is not Irish - and with the ability to view at least 4 camera angles decided it was not a try. You are a complete donkey for your post and Living France should remove you from any further posting.

You have denegraded the Irish and you have made a total fool of yourself. You embarass English rugby, which should hold its head high tonight, and you clearly have no idea about what you say. English rugby does not need blind fools like you.

Bottom line is that Jake White and his men shut down the Wilkinson channel and this cut short any serious chance for England. My wife has just said, that you should take defeat like a man not a blind arrogant fool that you have clearly shown yourself to be.

As a rugby fan, I found it hard to see Catt and Robinson lose tonight. They are greats, they gave 110% and we all benefited. What a pity a monkey such as you has to try, and fail, to drag rugby into the football arena. [:@][:@]

Now Now ulster me old mate, take a chill pill. Moderator or not, we are all entitled to our opinion rightly or wrongly and pulling someone up on their diction is not very nice. Quite arrogant actually. He may have been totally pi--ed after the excitement of the game and typed a few errors, so what.

Please bear in mind that this is a forum for all to air their views, we all cant be very knowledgeable about certain subjects, as you appear to be at rugby, more just opinionated and like to put in out tuppence worth.

Have a drink, alcoholic or not, chill out and enjoy what has been a very good world cup, apart from Scotlands bad luck against Argentina, even though we all didn't get what we wanted in relation to results.

PS What was it you said to me about ' patriotic ramblings ' [;-)]

Which now gives me the right to post this little chestnut!

A seven year old boy was at the centre of a courtroom drama today when
he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of the boy.

The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents and the judge
awarded custody to his aunt.

The boy however confirmed that his aunt beat him more than his parents
and refused to live there. When the judge suggested that he live with
his grandparents the boy cried out that they beat him more than anyone.

Then in an unprecedented move, the judge dramatically allowed the boy to choose who should have custody of him.

In a final ruling yesterday, custody was granted to England Rugby Squad as the boy firmly believes that they are not capable of beating anyone. [:)]

Come on - Fair play and all that!!!

To moderate:
verb 1 make or become less extreme or intense. 2 review (examination papers or results) to ensure consistency of marking. 3 preside over (a deliberative body or a debate).
sharkhunter - you will find that throughout this competition I have looked at the separation between the Northern and Southern Hemisphere and the lack of inclusion for the "minnows". My 2nd last post was not aimed at Quillan because he had a go at Alain Rolland for being Irish, it was because he had the arrogance to accuse him (by implication) of cheating.
England lost, Ireland won

Strange how the ref was keen to give the Springboks a penalty  for crossing but when it happened twice to England, nothing
Alain Rolland is a top 3 referee in the world today. He missed several sneaky things from both sides in that match and he let things go so as not to ruin the game. In case you didn’t see it, Matthew Tate’s shove in the back to Montgomery was totally stupid and could have resulted in serious injury. It was, actually, a very cynical act as he knew that Montgomery was already in trouble and that he was they key for the Boks. Yet, despite this, Rolland let it go - vocally - as we could all hear him say to Smit that he was not going to penalise him. That’s the mark of the man. Oh and how many times did England try on the truck and trolley tactic before Rolland pinged them. I got 2 maybe 3 times. Oh, and how many slightly forward passes went from English hands to English hands that were not pinged, probably as many as for the Boks.

On the other hand, Quillan rips into the Irish (it could be any nationality) and at the end of the day the man who was best sighted didn’t give the try. It was contentious, it was a very tough call and the issue of the limb on, or over, the line was very very close. Stuart Dickinson (a Scotsman by the way - not Irish) took an awful long time to make his decision. I'll say that again in case Quillan didn’t recall this, Stuart Dickinson (the Scottish TMO) made the decision not to award the try. Rolland must act on his decision. Oh, and by the way, the TJ who was on the line and within feet of it didn’t call it a try either.

All that aside, rugby has been the greatest game I have ever had the honour to participate in and follow. It is flawed from time to time and the referees miss things or get a call wrong but to accuse them of cheating, or siding with a team, is crass in the extreme. And again, I'll say it for clarification, this has nothing to do with patriotism or hatred for any nation or xenophobia - its to do with the honour of the game and those who are involved or follow it.

But this one just took the biscuit:
Strange enough I have two couples from Dublin for a arriving tomorrow  for a week's stay, it will be difficult keeping a still tongue with regards to Irish referring.
Now sharkhunter, you said
Please bear in mind that this is a forum for all to air their views
and I totally agree with you. Please also bear in mind that these Forums are wide open to all and that youngsters come on and read what we write. We are all charged with a degree of moderation, decorum and adult sense but in that post from our own moderator we got a disgraceful plateful of racial bile. What kind of message does this send out to anyone coming on to this forum - "Oh its okay to say whatever you like about anyone or to anyone even if its wrong, racialist, insulting". This forum is better than this.

England were by far the best team from the Northern Hemisphere. They had the balls to pick themselves up after a poor start and go all the way. They had the guts to shrug off the media slagging of them and show their true metal. They had the passion and the pride to drag themselves up and put it up to the Boks, who were worried sick, and nearly did it. They should be very proud of themselves this morning as should every English supporter and as should all right minded rugby fans. Congratulations to England - you deserve all the plaudits that you will now receive. You have a great basis to build upon and you will do damage to the 6 Nations.

Good joke this one.  Been around ages though.  What i like about it is that you can copy and paste it into a word document, and use whenever you want for wahtever sport you support.  All you have to do is change teh name of the team and it works all over again.  First saw it about 3 world cups ago (football). Welsh lads at work used it against england when the welsh won the rugby tournament (5 nations i thibnk it was then, might be 6 or 7 now). I send it to mates regular when either Wales or Man Utd get booted out of a competition.

Key thing here though.  It has always been as part of the banter, a good crack amongst friendly, and i repeat friendly rivals on the pitch, close friends off it.  Last night after the final result  this thread turned a bit nasty and out of character for this forum. Folks it truly is a game. Lets not foget that.  My welsh colleagues can have their 15 minutes of ribbing me on monday, i will have many more days at their expenses once the next major tournament gets here.  England lost, accept it. Aas far as records go, 2 consecutive world cup finals, 1 world cup win and now we move on, great record, not many can live with it.  We are a proud nation and i hope all our neighbouirs at some time in the future get to experience the same (as long a s england beat you in the final) :-)

Lets get this thread back on track and cut out the hint of nastiness that has crept in :-)).........  Twinkle, this is not aimed at you, just using your post to respjnd thats all

"England played very well "

except for the forwards who lost at least 7 of their own lineouts and gave away needless penalties. - White tinted specs ?

The team that wins is surely the best team ?

Before the first match the prospect of England reaching the final would have been laughed at so by that yardstick the squad did exceptionally well. Perhaps if Ashton had had 4 years to prepare rather than 10 months the result might have been different, we will never know.

Well, after the game I approached the computer but too many beers and too much emotion inside me said NON as I knew what I would have written would not have been the thoughts of a rational or subjective person.   So it is with a heavy heart that I thought I would have my two pennies worth now.   I thought it was a poor game but kind of thought it would be, as everyone seemed to close everyone else down, you have to say master planning by both coaches.   Yes it was close, did the best team win? - well probably - just.   Have to admit I thought it was a try and after his decision thought that the TMO must have had another view other than we had seen but there you go we have all seen good ones and bad ones given before.   So lads on wards and upwards, you have given your all and we cannot ask more than that, congratulations The Boks.   Finally, to the best little rugby player it has been my privilege to watch - go now and enjoy the rest of your life Billy Wizz, just brilliant.

Firstly I would like to say that my first comment "England lost, Ireland won" was not intended to be racist, if people thought it was then I apologize to those concerned.

I recorded the match last night and there are two things I would like to say. The touch line camera clearly shows it was a try ( the leg was in the air and the knee about 6" from the line when the ball went down) and that's the same video the that the TV ref would have seen. You can't hear the TV ref say it was not a try, in fact you can't hear him say anything. You hear him when the pitch ref asks him initially but nothing after that, we had to wait. It was a long wait and my feeling is the pitch ref disallowed the try because he wanted the game to continue quickly and the TV ref had not come back with an answer. Anyway whatever the reason he never gave it. If the try was allowed that does not mean that England would have won the match but it may of made a difference, that as I said we will never know. Even Pienaar said it was a try.

In two games Alain Rolland (who happens to be an Irish referee I believe) refereed in which England played he has either given penalties incorrectly or has ignored offences committed on the pitch. Against Australia he gave two penalties against England at the beginning of the match for pulling down the scrum when they didn't. He also failed to give a penalty try when Australia pulled the 5M scrum down four times. In hind sight it does not matter in that match because we won anyway.

With regards to letting offsides go for both teams last night its difficult to tell from an armchair what with camera angles etc. It's very rare that you can do this accurately unless it's so blatant. If there were offside offences then the touch judges would/should have raised their flags and not being there that's who I rely on.

Tates push in the back to Montgomery is contentious but only because perhaps he should not have pushed so hard but pushing him was the right thing to do at the time. If you noticed Tate did apologize to Monty immediately.

My personal complaint about the ref was he was not consistent, I never said he cheated.

The two couples that are staying have been before and the way I felt last night is that I would have had to bring up the question of poor refereeing by the Irish ref. Now I have calmed down and slept on it I doubt I will mention the subject unless they bring it up.

And yes of course I (alone with many others I suspect) we upset last night. The Springboks played a very good game as did England (except for the line-outs) and one has to accept the best team won on the day.

Once again if anyone felt my comment was nasty and racist I applogize.

A predictable result,   the best team won – not much running rugby, quite a lot of spoiling tactics, and it was penalties that  gave the Boks chances to score – some penalties from (dare I say it?) not so clean play.  Interesting also that Habana can’t be credited with tries either, as someone claimed that a sprinter got most of the previous points, and  yet still a comfortable win. Most of the points from Percy - my new hero, in fact the leading point scorer in the 2007 Rugby World Cup.

The total 2 game aggregate was  52-6 !!!  Excluding the 4 previous matches where England was also beaten.

Moans all over, excuses, excuses, excuses about that  ‘try’ – well forward pass before, and referee was kind to the English to award a penalty.  AND the English team got 3 points anyway – why the moans ?   some rather bad losers, sad to say.  Even Phil Vicary said the best team won-  let's not bring into rugby football mentality.

Someone on this site moaned about the coach’s blazer-   Well, the Springbok  blazer looked OK to me – especially holding the trophy -  Jake White, the coach ( & NOT a Boer- with English ancestry) apparently has to apply for his job.    Something to do with affirmative action & the SA government demand that more Africans should be in the team – whether good enough or not. (If this policy was imposed in the UK it would mean some Asians in the team, also whether any good or not).

This will probably be the last winning team to come from SA.

Still a great night in for us - and Paris was not destroyed as often happens after football matches where England plays.

Regards to all rugby lovers

Just a few thoughts after overnight reflection:

 • The 'try' looks as though it was correctly ruled out (from what I've heard on the radio this morning), but it looked good to me last night and I reckon that it would have been given 9 times out of 10 by a TMO. We'll never know whether it would have made any difference had it been given - RSA would undoubtedly have upped their game and opened out
 • Well done to South Africa - just about deserved winners of the Tournament overall and that's all that matters. They were very disciplined last night, giving away just 2 kickable penalty opportunities in the whole game. Moody's daft trip was an example of the opposite and deserved to get pinged if not carded.
 • England's performances over (say) the last 3 World Cups is probably second to none, if you were to give points for whether they've finished in the first 3 places.  Something to be proud of.
 • Only regret - Argentina didn't win it.  Best half back partnership (not necessarily individual players, but partnership)

I am really a football man so you can probably dismiss everything I say. I barely understand the rules and have watched more rugby in the last 2 or 3 weeks than I have in the rest of my life put together.

I watched the whole tournament on TF1 and thoroughly enjoyed it. The commentating by Thierry Gilardi was superb and I got to know a lot more about the game through the asides of Thierry Lacroix. What a change from English football matches with those pains in the rears Motson, Lawrenson et al.

Some of the games I watched in the local pub. The highlight being France's win over NZ - superb evening.

Last night all those French people at the pub who said they wanted England to win the final after we beat them suddenly changed their minds and cheered on SA. Turncoats! In the end they couldnt bring themselves to cheer England. Cant blame them I suppose.

Wasnt sure about the try but TF1 thought it wasnt so I accepted that.

Thought England played well, especially after the first match debacle. They played more or less continuously in the SA half and but for some great defensive work by SA would surely have won. However they must learn how costly it is at this level of any sport to make such stupid errors. Penalties anywhere in the half seem to be meat and drink to Percy Montgomery who to me was the outstanding player of the tournament, more so than Habana who really capitalised on many a sloppy pass in various matches.

Not sure that I will be rushing off to see Stade Francais or Clermont etc but have been entertained by some great rugby and with b****r all else on French TV generally it was very welcome.

It has been funny reading some of the posts on here when they descended into mud-slinging and bold patriotism. Some people seemed to be very upset by it. As I stated at the beginning I am predominately a football fan and some of the things I have seen on football forums are appalling but that seems to be part of the culture. I did have to chuckle when the TV guys were condemning the France and Argentina players for their little pushes and shoves and my favourite was when people in the pub told others off for booing or whistling the opposition in French matches. It is not very 'sportif'. Everyone clapped whoever won. Imagine Man United and Man City fans clapping each other whilst watching the match together in a pub over a glass of wine.

Ah well !... that was the World Cup... Let's be adult and get over it! [:P][:D] Now on to the next competiton as above...

I am a wee little worried [8-)] 'coz that (which I have copied and pasted here) was sitting in my mailbox just above the notification that someone had posted a response on this thread...

Do they have a giant team of little gremlins at Google which spends all of its waking hours reading people's emails and stick some appropriate advertising?....

Had the same happening about 3 weeks ago when emailing my Parisian bruv that I would be landing on his sofa soon and I was bombarded by Eurostar advertising next to our correspondance... [8-)] ... Sort of makes you wonder a bit ?....

Anyway that is digressing from the thread...  On to the 6 Nations! Allez les Bleus [:D]

The divot on the white line betrays where Cueto's foot strayed into touch before lifting again - equals the caption below photo number 2
International referee's chief Paddy O'Brien said there was no doubt Dickinson had made the correct call.

"It was an absolutely brilliant decision by the television match official, and there is a great photo of his foot just on the line prior to grounding the ball," said O'Brien.

"There is no issue, there is no doubt. People may criticise officials for taking time, but it is better that it is correct."
This photo clearly shows Cueto's foot on the whitewash before grounding the ball. Then the foot is in the air and then he grounds the ball. The fact of the matter is that his foot on the whitewash takes him out of play. He was out. The fact that the foot then is in the air means nothing. Cueto went out when his foot dragged on the line. You cant go out and then come back in again.

Quote from BBC Rugby web site:
Gomarsall fed the ball wide and Cueto dived over in the corner, but the television match official correctly ruled he had just put a foot in touch as Danie Rossouw got across to make the tackle.
le rouge - you make some good points but I rather suspect that you may have missed one salient point that I made (and this is based on my supposition that your mud slinging and bold patriotism comments refers to me) I clearly stated that my reasoning for saying what I said was
post was not aimed at Quillan because he had a go at Alain Rolland for being Irish, it was because he had the arrogance to accuse him (by implication) of cheating.
As for mud slinging, well thats your opinion. I felt that on a very public arena such as this Forum, to call into question a highly respected professional (even if he was not the one who had actually made the decision) and to imply that he was in fact cheating or being hard on England and to use his nationality (which is by the way and for point of conformation - born in Ireland of French father) quite improper. My son, aged 13, was the one who actually drew my attention to what was written and he had asked why anyone would want to treat people from Dublin as described below because of a rugby match.
Strange enough I have two couples from Dublin for a arriving tomorrow  for a week's stay, it will be difficult keeping a still tongue with regards to Irish referring.
To be honest, I fully understand how all English supporters must have felt on Saturday evening. It must have been heart wrenching, but that is life. In rugby you take the hit, take the pain and then share a beer with your opponent afterwards. Even Vickery states
"You get decisions like that in a game. Sometimes you get them, sometimes you don't," he said.

"I'm not going to stand here and blame referees. South Africa deserved their win.

"We've had a magical time. Fair play to South Africa. They were the better team and this is their victory. We have to wait for four years so they better enjoy it."
Finally, fair play to Quillan for his most recent post. Equally I apologise for the words that I used to describe what was written and hopefully the honour that abounds in the wonderful world of rugby will continue unabated.

In the World Cup final, you get the two best teams in the World. Someone wins, someone loses.

SA were the better team on the night and won, well done to them.

Phil Vickery says it all.

We are not football supporters, its the game, play hard, play fair and toast the victors, dont moan about what might have been. The Ref might have been right, he might have been wrong but he is ALWAYS the ref and the ref's decision stands.

Jake White said "the team that wins the WC will

be the team with the best defence" No try from SA in the final and in

the second half I don't think they even crossed our 22 line. England

were almost the equal of them untill the last 10 or 15 minutes of the

match when we were so bad we were embarrasing. (and wtf happened to our

lineout?)

SA looked pretty class for the whole tournement and deserved to win.

And this is what Eddie Jones says to everyone who thinks the WC was boring.

"We've had some fantastic games at the World Cup and we've had

some arm wrestles, but when you're playing for a big prize you're

sometimes going to play quite simple rugby.

I don't think there's anything wrong with that. In Europe they

don't care about the way rugby's played. If it's fast and free it's

good, if it's tight and grinding that's good, and the crowds at the

World Cup were enormous."

If you don't like it "tight and grinding" you don't really like rugby. You need to watch something else.

Sorry i'm a week late with this rubbish - only got back today.[:)]

Well - its over for this RWC but it has opened up some debate about its future, the Tri Nations future and the 6 Nations future. More importantly, to me at least, it has brought a lot to the game. The "minnows" gave us die hard entertainment, The Pumas gave us heart, soul and pride rugby and the big boys either got spanked or breathed a sigh of relief.

Personally, I believe that the two best teams made it through to the final. I feel that, as finals go it wasnt too bad. Despite the one eyed monster view of the Cueto non try, the refs, tj's and TMO's were particularly good. They usually get an awful hammering from everyone but that cant be done this time out.

But possibly of greater importance, it showed rugby in a terrific light and has probably recruited many many folk who would not ordinarily take any notice.

Finally, it has opened up the 6 Nations and its anyones. Bring it on (er - that is without Comical Eddie O'Sullivan SVP)

Absolutely - the next 6nations will be incredible.

We've also got the Heineken Cup coming up soon - can't bloody wait.

Oh yes - forgot to mention the France/Argentina game. With Laporte putting racier backs into the team I thought we'd see France running in tries, but instead it was the Pumas! What a display! What a complete side!

And I must say that i've had an enormous ammount of respect for Ibanez these last few years but that all went out the window last week when he threw the water bottle at the touch judge. Lucky not to get a red card there imo.

Its amazing what frustration does to you. Again, its testomony to the officials for having kept the spirit of the game flowing and actually letting that little blooper go. Its not like him to be honest.
