mint
Llywncelyn, doesn't your name mean holly bush? NOT planting one of those and as for the Victoria Plum, I think I'll settle for an Agen Plum, if there is such a thing. No, I think I'd prefer to buy locally but thanks for your suggestion. mint
We are only just over the border from you and I have rarely seen these trees in gardens. There might be the odd orange tree here and there. I HAVE see orange and lemon trees sold in markets but they have not looked exactly perky to me. Why don't you have a good look around the gardens in your area as what grows in them is a good indicator of what will do well. You could also ask at garden centres near you.Good Luck. Let us know what you find out as it will help other people.
Patf
I think they have to be grown in large pots in a conservatory. They wouldn't withstand the cold winters. I saw a beauty once (lemon) at a house in Lot&Garonne. They had it in a glazed porch and the man said it was always there.
Kitty
I've just heard (too late) that on St Catherine's Day (November 25th), French legend has it that if you plant a tree that day, it will grow well forever.
