Algae etc

My pool had nice clear water, but with a settlement of algae (I think - it was green) on the bottom.

I vacuumed it, but the green dirty water was pumped back into the pool through the filter (I have a reasonably good size sand filter). I backwashed and rinsed the filter, but almost immediately I continued vacuuming the green water was pumped back through, so it was obvious the filter was not removing any of the "algae".

Instead of clear water and a dirty floor, I now have very dirty green water.

I have checked the chemical levels with my test strip and it all looks pretty well OK.

Any tips?

You could try turning your control to waste and then vacuuming up the Algae when it is visble at the bottom of the pool. Just a word of warning, this should be done as fast as possible as you will be losing some of the pool water to waste, but a least it will remove the algae from the pool.. Then add some Algicide as per instuctions on the container, hopefully this will cure the problem.
