Electrical goods

If we move to France soon - which is becoming likely - can anyone advise us which electrical goods we can take with us and use with changed plugs or adapters and which should definitely be bought new 'over there'? For instance: kettle, power drill, vacuum cleaner,  mixer, slow cooker, hair drier, TV, digibox /  recorder, cordless phones, lawn mower, hedge trimmer, power washer ...... etc. Grateful for any advice from those with experience.

Most of those will work fine except the digibox (unless it's Freesat as opposed to Freeview) and the phone.  The TV might have some issues if old.

If you bring a microwave you might have to increase the cooking times very slightly.

Can't see any other pitfalls there myself  Others might of course!

You'll have greater difficulty finding a slow cooker here in France - they do exist, but very hard to find.....

There are other threads on this subject - some items are cheaper in the UK, but the cost of transporting them may change the differential, especially for large items.

Only if you are high, surely?

Cant see how elevation would affect the vibration of liquid molecules contained in the food.

Hi Ok

Think you will find as from the 1st of next month a lot of old Uk electrical products will no longer work here in France , EDF in a bid to combat the solar storms we are about to receive are going to reverse the supply , (it will flow from South to North ), this change has been going on for a few years now thats why they have NF ( North Frequencised ),stamped on electrical products  , it will mean that you will have to wire you plugs up Nutral -live reversed , battery operated products are the worse affected ..ie drills will work backwards when in forward etc ..so be warned

Is this for real and not a joke? do you have some further information e.g. a link to the EDF nonsense perhaps?

No one can predict the polarity of solar storms, they come in both flavours. So we swap everything and for the next 10 years all solar flares arrive in the opposite polarity, will they switch back?

I thought everyone knew about this.

I've been reading about it on the internet for ages.

Knaht uoy lla - oops, sorry! I had the computer switched on in reverse. Thank you all, that's very helpful; we'll bring the lot and see how we get on. The little TV we use in the motorhome works OK in France, so with luck an in-house one will, too.
