Inspection of Gites

Recommended Posts

We are planning to buy property in Limousin and let it out as a Gite. Are there any inspections required by the local tourist board (as there are for B&Bs in England) or can you just start advertising and taking bookings. I am thinking of either planning requirements, or making sure that the gite is of a satisfactory standard for letting.

Unless you want to register it with Gites de France or agency - ferry company etc (which often provides some excellent contacts) there is no need for anyone to inspect your gite.

I let mine out through the internet, there are some excellent sites which provide free advertising, so far I have had great responses but one party were a nightmare (look further down this forum at 'Vetting prospective rentals'.

If you keep it simple & friendly you should be fine, make sure you have indemnity insurance on your house policy, cost me an extra 100FF - well worth the piece of mind!

Any questions do get in touch!
