MPEG-4 AVCH.264

Recommended Posts

Been puzzling for a couple of days how to transcode this format without paying for expenxive software. The codec is used with a lot of Mini Camescopes using SD or SDHC memory cards.

Solution look for a Software that will download videos from the net, sites like youtube; such software will recognise AVCH and I presume AVCHD formats; then transcoding to MPEG4, DivX, XviD, etc is simple.

The Sanyo Xacti codes directly into MPEG-4 AVCH.264 directly so a lot of video fits on an SD card; VLC plays it without any problem, although the Atom CPU on the netbook is pushed a bit.

Although VLC is tops, not so sure about transcoding with command line if there is something simpler. So finally opted for Any Video Converter http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/ which is dead simple to use and the free version recognises the AVCH.264.

The reason for the transcode is to play stuff on the vehicle headrest video player using the maximum 8 GB on an SD card.

OK there is MediaCoder but it is a tad bloated.

[quote user="Jimmy"]Out of interest why on earth would you want to play home movies in the car? and why only 8Gb when the camera supports 32Gb on an SDHC card?

Manual of Xacti VPC CG65 EX indicates that recording restricted to 4GB portions.

The reason....the Xacti bought in july sales at -75%.....seemed a small neat unit.....JPEG, MJPEG, MPG4, AVI car unit obtained at a car boot a week ago for €4....frankly not sure what purpose it will have but campingcar seems most probable.  I sort of buy things at car boots to experiment this week an AceCat Flair tablet and a Pinnacle TNT USB key.  The AceCat seems happy on the Vista unit but stymied at moment for lack of a quadruple A battery for the pen.....a lot cheaper than a WACO.[:)]
