andyh4
It has been suggested elsewhere by someone connected to the club where the event was being held that the team vet may have doped the horses to improve their performance - and got the dose wrong. odile
isn't it time to stop making animals travel huge distances for competitive sport?
cooperlola
There's surely more to this than the travelling time, Odile. Horses travel all over the world with few ill effects.I don't know about polo but in the US racehorses are permitted to run under the influence of drugs that have been long banned in the UK and most of Europe. This may also be true for polo ponies - it wouldn't surprise me - it is certainly one of the toughest sports around and the animals have to be super fit and very athletic to take part. Suze01
Having done a Google search to check for the latest information it now seems 21 polo ponies have died. What an appauling 'accident' or whatever has caused this tragedy.
odile
it does seem so incredible ... and very sad. Hope all is done to get to the truth and avoid it happening again, blaze what do you think with all your experience?
