KENZO, Husky X - now 3 years in the Refuge Canin Lotois waiting for a new home!!!

This is Kenzo - a Husky x - who has now been at the Refuge in Cahors since 2008!!!  This really is no life for a dog like this (or any dog for that matter!).  Kenzo is amongst our long-termers, his life is very restricted - it really is like a prison sentence for him.  Yet he has made incredible progress thanks to the attention of volunteers who have spent time with him when possible.  One in particular takes Kenzo out running in the woods whenever he can - he can safely let him off the lead and he always comes back to him.  In the end though, nothing can compensate for a real home and Kenzo urgently needs to find one now with an owner who is active and sporty and who can give this dog a true life.  A dog like Kenzo needs plenty of activity and to feel a special bond with his owner(s) to make him the happy dog he deserves to be.  He needs space and freedom (not a dog to live in a flat)!  Imagine life spent hour after hour, day after day, in a small cage - waiting for his next turn to have a run in the Refuge yard or, better still, a run with his favourite volunteer. 

Kenzo is vaccinated, castrated and micro chipped and is now about 6 years old.  He would be best in a home with no small children with owners who can devote plenty of time to him.  He would also be happy with another female dog for company (see below!).  He is calm, affectionate and sociable.  Yet we have noticed that he is beginning to lose heart and get a bit depressed - the one relief from this has been his recent friendship with Lisa, another female dog and also a Refuge long-termer.  These 2 have struck up a close partnership with Lisa ruling the roost as far as Kenzo is concerned - not that he minds - he loves her company!  It has even crossed our minds to find these 2 a home together - what a wonderful result that would be for them!!

Kenzo enjoying a few brief hours away from the Refuge this weekend at a fund raising event...  A very happy dog to be shown so much attention for such a short time!!  Thanks to all the Refuge volunteers and staff who have worked so hard to socialise Kenzo and to bring a little happiness into his life whenever possible.

A happy ending for Kenzo - he was fostered by a volunteer and she has now adopted him as he settled so well with her other 2 dogs - lucky Kenzo - his own family at long last!!
