where to have a dog put down

We have a dog who now needs, unfortunately, to be given the final vaccination.

I write casually but, as any-one knows, underneath it's awful.

Where is the best place to have this done, and does any-one have an idea of the price (not the cost - that's our sadness).

Hope some-one can help - we live near Samatan.

Sadly you cannot be vaccinated against death - but I understand your idea.

Last year this tragic event was forced onto me, the cost was 45 euros but it took so long the vet didn't charge.

All the vets at the practise I visit speak some English and seeing as the patient cannot speak there is no great disadvantage.

My thoughts are with you.

the best place is at home - if you can afford it. My thoughts are with you.

FOR US personally we feel it is so much better not to put an animal (best friend) through the stress of going to the vet, waiting room, and a clinical environment full of strange smells. Much rather spend moneyon that aspect than on what happens afterwards- and I am almost sure your dog would 'agree'. Much better for you as well as you won't be left having to cross a waiting room and have to drive in a very distressed state. Again, my thought are with you.

We were fortunate enough to live next door to a vet for over 17 years, he became a close friend and all the animals we had in that time benefited from being able to have a stress free end, being put to sleep while lying in their baskets. Lovely for them, and a great comfort for us.

I agree,  especially if you have a garden and wish to bury your dog.  Our vet came to the house (in UK) when our beloved greyhound had cancer and there was no hope.  He was out in the sunshine with us and it was very quick for him tho we still cry when thinking of him 6 years later.

So sad for you.

I agree and my heart goes out to you and as  I posted to Val - Hope this helps

If It Should Be

If it should be that I grow frail and weak,

And pain should keep me from my sleep,

Then you must do what must be done,

For this last battle can’t be won.

You will be sad, I understand

Don’t let this grief then stay your hand,

For this day, more than all the rest

Your Love and Friendship stands the test.

We’ve had so many happy years

What is to come can hold no fears,

Would you want me to suffer so?

When the time comes, please let me go.

Take me where my needs they’ll tend

Only, stay with me to the end.

And hold me firm and speak to me

Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time that you will see

It is a kindness that you do to me.

Although my tail its’ last has waved,

From pain and suffering, I’ve been saved.

Do not grieve it should be you

Who must decide this thing to do,

We’ve been so close we two these years

Don’t let your heart hold any tears.

Thinking of you  xxx

That little verse helped me so much when I had to have my dear Phoebe put to sleep, and I have posted it many times on this forum, I think it sums up beautifully that what you are doing is for your pet's sake not yours[:(]
