uk car with tax disc running out...

To renew your UK tax disc, you'd need to return to the UK for an MOT test.  You'd also need a UK address for the DVLA paperwork.

Far easier to register the car in France.  The CT test is cheap (+ its every two years), there's no road tax, and what you would have paid in travel/ferry/MOT/tax disc will easily pay the french registration fee and leave you money over to buy some champagne to celebrate.  Plus the french insurance premiums are likely to be cheaper (and they include free breakdown insurance).  Your savings might even cover a pair of second hand LHD headlight units.
what do people suggest? we are still insured in the uk at present. we also have a french car. i believe an MOT would need to be done on uk car. thanks in advance.
Remember, if your UK disc runs out and you have not completed export documents you will face an automatic fine and yes MOT can only be carried out in the UK.. You are better off to register and insure your car in France and also there is no road tax. The other possible serious scenario is even if your car has UK insurance but has been outside the UK for a period of time and the Insurance company have not agreed to continue the insurance in France, then most will not meet any claims which could even include third party. This would leave you with no insurance cover, so considering re-registering would then be the best way forward.

If you look in search this subject has been discussed many times in detail.
