ErnieY,

Thats what flat caps are for.......[:P]

As you can see from my avatar, its an MX 5. Thats what the MGB should have morphed into, alas the Japanese got the sales. [:(]
'er indoors has pemission to shoot me if I ever buy a flat cap !

Totally agree with you about the MX5 BTW.

The MG TF simply doesn't cut it and IMHO falls ito the same category as the old TR7 convertible, strictly for tarts and hairdressers...[+o(]

Sit's back to wait for the flack.............[Www]

Nice motor Ernie!!! Is that a speck of dust just behind the off side head lamp [:D]???

My connection with MG these daze is my book "The MG Companion" by Kenneth Ullyett from 1960. A wonderful book filled with info from W R Morris' garage and Cecil Kimber right through to the MGA Twinc. I nearly swapped my TC for a Twinc, but the windscreen was shot to bits and no replacement could be got in or around Singapore!

As a matter of interest Raindog. Why did you change anything from PA to J2. There was no real difference in the power, rear axle ratio or much else that I can see?[8-)]

Must go for now, dinns calls. Led by the stomatch!!

Sorry, not BRG, but midnight blue. See how many MG badges you can see on the engine. All aluminium rocker, maniflod, etc. Complete with 10 inch finned drum brakes.. That was a special car and I didn't realise how much till it had gone!

Edir :-  I forgot to say, I still have the solid brass rad cap from it. Just before I sold it I found another rad cap which I put on the rad and managed to keep a small part of my car!!

For those wot noticed, the rear wheels are 19 X 6.50 and the front are the original 19 X 4.50. This was a recognised and accepted change. Also made it easier to keep it in a straight line at anything over 65 MPH [:-))]! I still have the aero screens too!!

Hi Guys

Super responce to my post, nice looking car ErnieY and super pictures to Jonzjob.

What I was looking for, was info on Insurance for the old cars, here I am with Peter Best through the car club, good rates, I think my 54 TF is £87 with restricted milage and my Bs some where around £100, aggeed value with no, no claims clause.

I also have a Jaguar XJ8, the insurance on this is about £350.

Can anyone recommend a company, and also give me some idea of costs, also what will I need to do to make the cars comply with French laws.

Check out the MG Club de France. There's a Q&A about insurance costs in their FAQ section.

Here's a list of insurers of classic cars.

For information about importing and registering your cars, see the FAQ at the top of this forum section.

here comes the flack !! I love my MG TF160 !! It replaced by 24 year old TR7 which I also loved !! Having looked at all the other convertables available within my price range including MXs which I viewed as basic crap I decided the MG was for me......

And incidentally, I am an early retired bank manager and MALE so stick your comments about tarts and hairdressers where the sun does shine and will hopefully scorch your barnet !!

Ooooopppppssssss Earnie, steady boy??[:D][:D]I always reconed the the car with the MG badge on it is about a valid as a 'new' Mini or a 'new' Beetle. Not worth owt really. MG died when they shut down at Abingdon in my mind!![:-))]

Mind you the makers still make a boat load from the 'new' title...[:D]

I also had a Diane with the full rally kit fitted. You know the stuff, castors fitted on the door handles so it didn't have the drag from them scraping on the ground on the corners. I had that car for 2 years at 20,000 miles a year working as a service eng for IBM. I even went down to Lake Garda in N Italy on a course in it. Wonderfull car when most of the scenerie is up there somewhere! 85 mph on the M6 with 4 consenting adults in, late for a party on the Severn near Worcester!! Got to be done I am afraid...

602cc all working their guts out. Fantastic, I love em!!![8-|]
