Scrapping a car in France

You need to go to the prefecture first . They should give you a list of recognised scrapyards, and a form which states that the car is yours to scrap, no-one has a lien on it etc. They do a bit of research on this first, you have to show them the carte grise.

Then you go to the scrapyard and they take the car and documents, and (I think, can't remember exactly) a document which you MUST take to your insurer asap.

With ours I went to the scrapyard first to make sure they would accept it. Then the prefecture.
Hang on though, that car is worth something like €1000 in the scrappage scheme so maybe some would give you a couple of hundred euros for it so they can use it to get a new car cheaper?
For the owner to make use of the prime à la casse, he must have owned the wreck for a minimum of 6 months before it is scrapped/exchanged.
