Where can you buy them in France, as my search has been fruitless so far!
At the motoring aisle of Leclerc at St Junien they have them on the aisle end at 1 euro a go.
I wonder how long it will be before fake ones appear that look original but never go over the limit when used?
Wonder over ! our French friend has just warned us that he's seen some for sale without the CE or NF logo, so they are not approved and might not work correctly

In any event they seem fairly cheap and if its like the triangle and Hi-Vis waistcoats they will never see the light of day from the pocket in the boot

What are catagories for the people who have to carry the advanced version the Breath Testers ?

An Ifop survey indicates that 2/3 of the french population think the breathalysers are a good idea.
Is that population or just motorists ?

The survey was conducted outside the factory that makes breath testers, as the staff were leaving for home [:D]

Not sure it was on TV news this evening, presumably a structured sample.

Busy at moment but here is the google search result:

Ce sondage (échantillon de 902 personnes représentatif de la population française âgée de 18 ans et plus) a été réalisé par téléphone jeudi et vendredi dans la foulée de la publication du décret au Journal officiel.

Note "Alouette" is a vendée local FM radio with close association to Puy du Fou.

As a frequent zebra crossing user I voted several times.[;-)]

The testers will have to see the light of day at sometime, to check the use by date and for replacement.[:)]
No sell by date on the ones I've seen Deb.

Also we've been told that initially there will be the usual checking on all vehicles followed by indifference - as with the high vis jackets.

They require a valid use by date to be legal.

Food for thought:

France currently has 29 MILLION car users.  If  the requirement to carry a couple

of ‘breathalyser tubes’ comes in, that means for just the French car

drivers alone, there is an immediate demand for about 60 million tubes.

There are currently only 2 companies that manufacture the tubes

suggested which carry the NF level of certification.  Their combined

annual output (excluding the idea they may sell any to anywhere outside

of the France car ownership) is 700,000 per year.

To produce the 60

MILLION tubes suggested would take 85 years, and that STILL doesn’t

include the requirements of any foreign drivers passing passing through

France.

According to the article I referred to some time ago:

http://www.midilibre.fr/2011/12/05/une-entreprise-heraultaise-fournie-47-pays-en-ethylotest,425963.php

one company in Gignac, near Montpellier, makes between 170,000 and 200,000 kits PER DAY.

Thanks all.  3 years sounds about right then. [:)]
I'd be careful when purchasing: some sites selling these say that theirs last 18 months/2 years.
Thanks - I will post that advice also.[:)]
