I understand that some "permanent" conditions qualify for 100% refund on medical treatment, hospitalisation (excluding meals) etc. Does this extend to medicines required and if so, are the pills to control high blood pressure and cholestorol available at the 100% rebate for E121 holders or everyone or no-one?

Not all medicines are refunded 100 per cent.  I have 100 percent cover for arthritis but the medicines I take for Meniere's and cramps are blue label medicines and these are charged at 35 per cent to the patient.  I pay about 2 euros a packet on these although for me they are essential drugs.  The main drugs for arthritis and blood pressure are thankfully refunded at 100 per cent.
