Exterior Lime wash

Hi, hope someone can help. Does anyone know how to lime wash an exterior stone wall. The exposed wall used to be inside and is made up of small stones, I could point it but it'll take ages! Thought that limewashing would be a good alternative, it was originally limed/some kind of lime render, also as it's a north east facing wall I thought that liming would give it better protection. Any advice gratefully received.

Many thanks

Try www.stastier.co.uk or www.buildingconservation.com (the Cornish Lime Company) where you can find plenty of advice about products and techniques. My advice - 4 thin coats is better than one thick coat, but have only used this on internal walls.
