Vapour barrier

Hi everyone

Can anyone tell me if I need to put up some sort of vapour barrier material first when covering old stone walls.
I intend to put up the usual wood or metal studding with insulation and plasterboard on top.
Also what useful tips has anyone got for me when using metal studding, never used it before.

Thanks to all

Avoid the vapour barrier. It is best to ventilate the void between the wall and the placo.. Metal studding is OK (cheap and fast) but not very rigid and can be difficult to fix to as it keeps flexing away from you as you apply a little pressure to the screw to get it pierce the metal. Buy one of the crimping tools - a bit costly but worth it, very useful for fixing 'noggins' across the back of the studs which helps make it more rigid.

We put two uprights back to back rather than just the usual single one. It helps make the structure more rigid and doesn't add much to the cost, which is very modest.
