Le martin-pêcheur
Hi, Does anybody know if you can buy a Wall mounted Chauffe eau which will run on bottled butane and DOESN'T need a flue or conduit? We thought we saw one in Mr Bricolage recently but were not sure. We need one that will supply a sink and shower at the same time. All answers gratefully received, thanks. BJSLIV
Don't know if they are still legal, but we used to have one of these, and it was very unpleasant! The room smelt of fumes, and if anyone used the sink while somebody was in the shower the dousing in cold water.......We replaced it with a electrical chauffe eau, no fumes, cheaper to run, no cold shocks, and no gas bottle! Liz
We stayed in a mobile home in the Vendée recently and we had a gas water heater which supplied instantaneous hot water for shower, bathroom and kitchen sink. I have no idea of the make but I am sure it was a modern one. I did notice it had a short vent pipe through the roof. It worked very well. No smells, no fumes and I was quite impressed.Liz (29)
Stephenlemmon
I'm pretty sure all gas water heaters have to be vented now. If you buy one it will almost certainly have natural gas injectors and you'd better specifiy that you want the butane / propane injectors too. Make sure you get both sets as they are a real pain to find afterwards. Stephen.
BJSLIV
It seems they are available eg:http://www.chauffe-eau.fr/chauffe-eau/instantane/appareil.php?evacuation=sans%20raccordement&id=36But at €350+ they are more expensive than electricity, and with a max flow of 5 litres per minute, I don't know how it would cope with sink and shower.
