Kitchen design

Hi

We had to install a kitchen in our rented house - as it only had a simple sink unit as the 'kitchen' when we arrived - and, after much research, we chose a kitchen (flat pack) from Castorama. It is solid and robust - plus the chap from the kitchen dept added some superb ideas of his own to our (sketched) design, and thereby stopped us making some stupid errors.

"Can anyone recommend a store where we can plan our new kitchen and buy the units and appliances (like MFI here). Hubby would install everything. Maybe they're on every ZI but I don't remember seeing any [Confused] trueblue"

If you are going to Poitiers then take the time to visit Lapeyre www.lapeyre.fr

Probably more expensive than Hygena or Ikea but far better quality - solid carcasses - top quality Blum full extension hidden drawer runners and hinges and no missing parts on delivery.

Their unfinished 'brut' hardwood doors and frames are very good value for money and can be finished to your taste. Avoid the factory-finishes in paint or varnish as these are impossible to repair if damaged.

Possibly to be avoided are Mobalpa - we have two sets of French friends who purchased very expensive Mobalpa kitchens - the quality of the units and the installation was a disaster. The sides of the pre-formed drawer units have Mobalpa stamped into the metal in large letters - not very subtle.

Sorry to disagree Bob but we had a Mobalpa solid French oak kitchen fitted two years ago.

The designer in Mobilier de France was excellent, open to our ideas, made some very useful suggestions, came up with a scale plan and 'photo' of what the kitchen would look like.

They also built a unit to go around our tall fridge so that it looks built-in and not freestanding with a cupboard over. Yes, the drawer sides are imprinted with 'mobalpa' but they are very solid, (attractive when open) metal drawers each one complete with dividers/cutlery organisers that can be adjusted to suit. The quality of the cupboards and fitting is more than very good.

I would recommend them.
