James2
Hi, My shed is in need of a floor screed, so on my next visit in April I hope to buy a tonne of ` sharp sand `Can anyone give me the correct French name to ask for at Leroy Merlin or Point P for ` SHARP SAND `? andyh4
In my experience French building sand is all sharp sand. It is soft sand that is a so and so to get if you really need it. So Sable a batir should do the job
Chancer
Sable rivière 0/4 will get you sharp sand, if you want soft builders sand then ask for sable à lapin if they do it in your area, beware it is not screened, has lumps in it and lots of cat s**t because it is not used for masonry but for bedding of sewer pipes. James2
Coarse or sharp sand is what I need, how about " SABLE AIGU "
andyh4
Feel free to try it. But don't be surprised if you get very blank looks.Alternatively you could try either of the two recommendations already given. I guarantee both will work.
HoneySuckleDreams
I agree with above - it's all sharp sand, soft "uk builders sand" sand is utterly ridiculously expensive and as rare as rocking horse poooopOn a more practical note, do you have the necessary vehicle to collect 1t of sand ? There are builders merchants that will give it to in a bag but you may still need a big trailor to pick it up.If it's delivery you need then make sure you order it with a lot of notice, especially if you are not around for long. Although, where you live you may get a better delivery service than us. Here it's not like the UK where they ask if you want it the next day before 8 or after 1 in the afternoon. If we order it here could be a week to 10 days before they turn up with it.
Théière
Could you look for your local Sableier in the pages jaune etc. going to cost you a lot less than sand that moves through too many hands before it reaches you. 04 or 02 is the same price for us at the local sand pit €21 per tonne
James2
Thanks for that, I have a trailer so armed with your advice I hope to pick up a tonne of " Riviere 0/4 " or " a batir " from my nearest " Brico "All being well I should be laying my screed in April.
