1. Our property was agift from HenryII to his chief of Police, he then gave the land to the Cistercian Monks and they built the Monastry, Abbey at Aunay Sur Odon, and that ensured all his passed sins were forgiven and he would go to heaven... Due the dense forest around the Abbey it was forgotten and  few knew of it's existance, which was good for the Monks who made several trips to the Uk to collect rents from the monastrys and churches they had built.  A great place to secure monies. It therefore escaped  all the demolishings thru the ages,,, did'nt know it was there.. Thankfully it's in  fantastic condition, above the ground... as was  to a degree.. and TV's Time Team got excited when they found a replica layout of our property under the surface of the ground,  obviously built by these chaps, Due to WWII some of the Abbey buildings did not survive, and sadly this place got a cheap makeover after the war, so we are repairing the job as it should have been done.. a lovely rewarding project.. Our headache is there is nothing on the net and nothing recorded as all, according to the records office.. all were lost during the war... unless someone out there happens to come across any documents in archives when hunting  we would love to know more... Good ol Henry employed our ancestors whom  he sent to Devon to set up Mints, they were his most trusted advisors.
 2. They have you really, as they have the Keys so you can't preview before handing over your cheque, we had an arrangement as we paid the full amount asked everything would remain. after the 3 month grace as it was a large estate. we went as everyone else, and paid,  then recieved  a thin piece of paper almost tissue a5 and that was it,  no keys, no docs all lost in the war, so our point was if it was all lost during the war, what was the three hours of photo copying of??? of what??? Anyway we arrived at the main gates to the tree lined drive now all completely overgrown since Feb and now August., after 3 hours cutting  heavy brambl and tree branches with hedge trimmer and chain saws we finally reached the house, only to discover it had been completely gutted all the 17th century fixtures and fittings had gone. doors windows shutters, electric boxes, three rooms fully panneled, gone.  we could see right thru.  we were in shock to say the very least but looking on the positive side it was all full of woodworm.. and we would have replaced it anyway back to original spec.... 4 years on at our BBQ an elderly French man had got to know us and rather worse for calvados said he thourgh he had been here before...the penny had dropped...with his friend, they bourght all the doors from the owners son, etc... and he still has them and offered them back free. so is'nt that nice... The moral of the story... don't agree to anything, decide after the sale what you leave depending on what price you get...Bon Chance...
 3.
Normandie - tell me more about the Vire fair, please. Usually we have to be home by the end of August for the start of term - but not this year!
Hi everyone, It's early days, and can be organised quite quickly so if you are interested in doing something for your region.   come on board and learn the ropes..   the more shows the more fun for all...  You may or may not be pleased to know I was approached last year by a group of retired  Farmers now living in suburbia, near Caen, they heard thru the french grape vine I used to organise County standard shows in the Uk, and they decided to put me back to work... They aim to bring back the Caen Agricultural show 2010  or 2011 depends on land purchase for the people of Calvados. I agreed to OVERSEE the project on several conditions. 1. I asked if any had been to a show in the Uk and three of the five had,  Devon County and the Royal Cornwall, so I was OK.  I will organise on the condition we can set up a permenent showground outside Caen, 100 acres approx... and it will be run on the same basis as the Uk County shows..(I judge in France and not impressed with their show organisation at all) so,  a county country show. with a French accent.....which will incorperate every country sport,  and displays of livestock and pets, and a mammoth food festival of French produce,  French .Rural crafts, etc... and of course Machinery new and bygone. It will be encouraged that societies and organisations will use the showground during the year as their main office and annual shows. and as Normandy is a mega showjumping and carriage driving area, these sports also. These lovely people are setting us the paperwork behind the scenes for the whole matter to be legal and we hunt for the perfect land for a showground. and parking.  being near Caen Ferry it will of course encourage the brits to come over with whatever they wish to exhibit.. I personally welcome any english to help us by telling their french neighbours, and educating them what a county show is.. and start getting your livestock geese, pigs, sheep cattle ponies ready, as there will be a few events held before to warm up.. Classes may be affiliated to UK assns. Ponies Uk etc...BDS etc... and if any Brits have time to throw on a suit and a bowler to officiate at the shows and expenses will be honoured I say english because many out there already know what to do... and there will be some heavy socialising after and during these events... If there are any experienced who would like to get involved do contact us... but there is no hurry wait until you see the announcment of the purchase of the land.... we move forward from there. We have already been sponsored for the Lovely Rosettes and Prize Cards. and a stack of Trophies, and More please... which is a great start. this Show will be a massive  shop window for the french.country people  . and it must remain a country show and not loose it's ruralness and become a  shopping show  like so many in the UK.  Welly..
 4.
There is the small[:@]matter of some 1300 French sailors being killed. No wonder the French do not see it that way.
It amazes me to watch all the History regarding WWII on TV,  they always quickly skim over, the wipe out at AUNAY SUR ODON, a whole village was destroyed 1 person survived... another small matter I think... This town was rebuilt by the swiss, but the area are still resuming metal buried from Tanks etc.... so a large amount that got stuck were just buried I assume.  welly I would love to know more about the History of this Village right back to middle  ages..

Gary.
Hi,  We have just been approached to be a stopover for Motocycle Owners, from the Uk, and frankly we are honoured. One of the chaps stayed with us last summer with his family and did not want to leave. We are on the A84. We want to get this right, what do you guys want when you stay and meet up, we have the venue,  and I am happy about Teas and refreshments, meals etc...  but, what about the meet do they organise others in the area to join up for the evening or do we do that... We,  so want to get this right.   Welly[:)][8-)] Post edited by the moderators to comply with the non-advertising rule of the forum.
