1. In fact, the voice recommended by pachapapa is good enough for a French language learner.
2.
Prefer Pierre, Stephan and VĂ©ronique. But Virginie, OK a big file, has perfect diction, none of the Quebec Twang, really sexy voice.[:D]
Where can I get more info about these voices? Thanks!
3. Nowadays there are many toolbars for Internet Explorer, some are toolbars with search engine functionality such as toolbars for Google and Yahoo, some toolbars are for free dictionary, some are anti-phishing service. I currently use Panopreter toolbar which can read out text on the web page, and convert the text to mp3 and wave audio files. Whenever I have to read a long story online, I enable the toolbar and listen to the speech by Microsoft Anna to avoid eyestrain. Here is the toolbar screenshot:
4. Songs and movies do help in learning, there is another effective way, use speech synthesis softwares also called text-to-speech softwares. Most of the text-to-speech softwares can read text files in format of .txt and other file formats with natural voices using various voice engines. The text-to-speech voice engine on Vista is Microsoft Anna, and Microsoft Sam on the Windows XP. Vista users can hear a very clear voice of Anna, XP users would think the voice of Microsoft Sam is poor, but they can get other company's vocie engines which are more clear. If your computer OS is English OS, you can install a french text-to-speech voice engine. It is an easy-to-use tool which reads files and converts files into wave and mp3 audio files, so you can listen to them with a MP3 player. It's very useful educational kit. 5. Using computer might be difficult for some people, but speech synthesis softwares do some help. Speech synthesis is the artificial production of human speech. A computer system used for this purpose is called a speech synthesizer, and can be implemented in software or hardware. A text-to-speech (TTS)system converts normal language text into speech. It is an easy-to-use tool which reads files and converts files into wave and mp3 audio files, therefore, you don't need to sit at the table for a long time. Post edited by the moderators.
